I just came from the dealership I thought I was going to use for my services, I made an appointment for my 5k service (it's free so I figured why not). I get there, give him my key/info and the conversation goes like this...

Me: About how long should this take?
    Him: At least 2 hours
Me: Are you serious? Why? All you're doing is rotating my tires
Him: Well we do a lot more than just that
Me: No you don't, it isn't like you're changing my oil or anything. You rotate my tires, check fluids and LOOK at a couple things
Him: Well our mechanics are about to cycle into lunch so that extends things
Me: Well I made an appointment so I wouldn't have to sit here all day, I'm not waiting 2 hours
Him: *points to other vehicles* We have all these other cars to take care of too
Me: Again, I made an appointment, I'm not waiting, give me my keys I'm leaving
Him: I'm just being honest with you, I don't want to lie and have you wait longer
Me: I appreciate that, but this is fucking ridiculous, rotating my tires takes 15 minutes, I'm not waiting 2 hours
Him: Are you available later today?
Me: No, I made an appointment for NOW, not LATER, I'm fucking leaving and going to another dealership for all of my services

So then I call the dealership right near my house, they tell me it'll take about 1.5 hours, so I'm going in on Tuesday now.

What time frame did anyone else get/experience? 2 hours is insane. I fail to see how it could take even 1 hour.

That's exactly why I avoid dealers like the plague, nothing but
a pain in the ass most times. They're like a Dr's office now taking on
way more then they have time for and you pay the price with your time.

About 40 min. Appt made that morning. 2 hrs is long wait but maybe they would finished within an hr? Who knows...In anycase, you sound like a very angry person, not good for your own health. Kinda like the boss in the movie Office Space. Try to relax, have a nice weekend.

Same thing happened for my 5k service. Took 2 hours. Had an appointment. Same response for service guy. Once the 25k is up, no more dealerships for me. Appointments are useless

Sounds like a lot of dealerships honestly. I've been to multiple and they are pretty similar with wait times. Can't ever get an oil change or rotation under 1.5 hrs. It is what it is really. I'm sure most people make appointments, so some of those cars he pointed too were probably appointments or walk ups before your time. I usually go as soon as they open and it's not all that bad like it is later on in the day. They get backed up especially by people with cars that they barely maintain. They like to see what all needs to be done and try and sell it to them. It takes time selling.

I'm not a very angry person at all actually. After getting married and buying a house I've just learned that my time is far more valuable than I ever realized and I don't appreciate having it wasted.

I have had my first 4 oil changes done at the dealer and every time I have gone, the wait has been at least 2 hours. According to the service guy, the appointment only gets you a spot in line and does not mean that your truck will get worked on at that time. Kinda seems pointless

buy a decent jack and be done with the dealers. I'm at the point where I only use them if it's a warranty
issue and I can't do it. I doubt I'll even use the free oil changes, I didn't on the last taco I had, free or not
I just didn't want to deal with them or the wait time.

I understand what you are trying to say, but here is where I got lost. You had an appointment, took time to go to the appointment, had a conversation with the guy and left because it would take 2 hrs. Took more time to call and schedule another appointment and was told it would be about 1.5 hrs, and this made you happy. Did you not just waste a half an hour going to this appointment, and calling to make another one and now have to take time from another day? I guess if it makes you happy, do what you will.

    Get a grip man.

Q: How many cars/trucks do they service with their toyota care a day? A: Shitload. So therefore you arent special and they couldnt care less if you go to another dealer.

Drop the truck off and come back, pretty simple.

If something like this gets your panties in a bunch I can only imagine how tightly wound you are.

I just walked-in and it took them like 40 mins. I requested them to change engine oil and paid $80 out of pocket. This was at Koons Tysons Toyota.

To avoid waits, I make my appointments for first thing in the morning or the last slot in the afternoon.

Timing is everything with dealers. When I've had to use them, it's on a Saturday
when I can just go by with the wife, drop it off and wait for the phone call telling me
it's done. Too many unpredictable variables when sitting there waiting.

+1. Dude youre not the only one with a vehicle needing service, it doesn't do any good to jump in the guys ass. If I was that writer and you spoke to me as you claim, you would wait every second of that 2 hours or more.

Exaltly why I will check my fluids and rotate my own tires and change my own oil. Totally worth the $40 knowing it's changed!!!

I have one for 7 am tomorrow as a matter of fact; going to get that drivers-side rear window seal changed.

Protip for OP; don't schedule services around holidays. You will stroke out.

I've figured out my time doing my own servicing is less than the time spent driving to the dealer let alone waiting the 1.5 hours you will be doing at dealership #2.

You have a distorted expectation of what the dealership does. Your appointment didn't mean they start on your car when you give them the key.
