See that's the problem, you are trying to probe people wrong on their beliefs, which i am not, I'm just answering your questions in a polite manner and the way I understand them. I really hope you find your answers, Ill pray to God that you do, honestly :)

More precisely, my faith is in Christ, my religion (trying to win men's approval by adhering to their interpretation and rules) is in the past.

JohnV, I am not emotional or heated about anything, nor do I need to take a moment to cool down unless I'm directly attacked- something that has nothing to do with the argument. You are welcome to attack me, but it simply slows the possible progression of the thread.

I went to the evolution thread, and believe it is not germane. Evolution may or may not be valid, it could have occured without God's hand. Evolution may seem simple and obvious, but it could be invalid - "he" may have created everything as it is. I feel this Evolution discussion was a distraction from the God argument.

You are correct, you have no need to prove to me what you believe. But if you believe in something so strongly that you are willing to wrap your life in it, there must be something more than "I just believe."

My central issue with religion is not the violent past, or the bizarre activities (kneeling, speaking to an unknown entity, activities en masse, praying to a specific direction). Its that there are a million delusions we can occupy our minds by. Some choose Pele, some choose Thor, some choose Vishnu, Hari, المهيمن, Al-Mu'akhkhir, or whatver. These are not the same idea, but to me, the common strain is this:

Uncertainty. God keeps uncertainty at bay.

Then, I argue we all behave in "teams." Our team is better than your team. Our school is better, our country is better, our ideas are better. Our god is better than your god. Otherwise, wouldnt we all coalesce into one great team united by one true god?

BUT! The rules of god say we cant ask god to show itself.

The bible and other texts- all written by people- otherwise we'd have proof of god's work.

And finally, God could be anything, or nothing at all. Who are you to define god on your terms? Or on any terms.

Perhaps god operates on more dimentions than we. Imagine a flat table, a 2 dimentional world. In that flat world, a circle has an inside and a circle-body, and an outside. No up or down in a 2-D world. However, we- 3 dimentional people- can "touch" the inside of the circle without going thru it's skin.

We are 3D people, and if a 4D person wanted, it could speak and we would hear it from "all directions" just like if you spoke to a 2D circle. A 4D person could reach inside your stomach, and pull out the contents without your knowledge. Just like you could take the "stuff" from a 2D circle.

In other words- the universe is so complex and full of ideas we have not even thought up yet. Why stop with God? God seems so pedestrian and dependant- like a person- because a person wrote it.

If God brought a text to us, or gave us technology or news of some sort- wouldnt god knock our socks off? Couldnt god? It could be amazing. Instead, it's God turning people into pillars of salt. These are stories of crops being lost, and bad luck. God saves the day. When we die- the uncertainty. It's not possible to cope with that, so we invent stories that help.

What if I told you that your god was pretty good, but I have access to a god that is even more, even better, super awesome and he totally loves you. I have a text that backs it up. I have people who want to help you see the truth.

Well, the truth needs no help to be seen. There is a universe of of reality ready to be studied and known. It is vast, and it is real, and it needs no secret handshake to get in on this party.

In fact, it is the one gathering place where everyone can be on the same team.

    You go.

I think this post is doing a lot better than debates normally do.

If there is a God I think even he would be impressed

    Oppps I missed this

No, I did not set out to prove them wrong, I was giving them the opportunity to know that there are many contradictions in Christianity (as in many other religions) and it is up to them to decide. and they should never take one "persons" (priest, minister, or anybody) word for anything, they should look it up for them-selfs. (if it doesn't sound right it might not be)
Heres some examples that I have found (some of the shorter ones)

God dwells in light Tim 6:16,
God dwells in darkness 1 Kings 8:12/ Ps 18:11/ Ps 97:2

God is all powerful Jer 32:27/ Matt 19:26
God is not all powerful Judg 1:19

God is warlike Ex 15:3/ Is 51:15
God is peaceful Rom 15:33/ 1 Cor 14:33

If it makes people think and question and maybe go reread the Bible. That would be a good thing. Yes?

P.S. Sorry My Friend, I missed that you are in Mexico when I said Happy TG.

If Christianity had an IPO and the shareholders elected a Chairman, you'd get Catholicism.
