Agree that some want a trust, but the benefits are even fewer than they were before. CLEO sign off is going away completely, and trust users are going to have to start submitting prints & photos. I'm glad CLEO sigs are going away - my Sheriff will sign but my last one took 12 weeks to get a signature.

Mine won't from what I've been told. I went a head and did it so my wife could be in possession of them as well. We will have several cans and sbrs as well as a couple other things. Just an easier move for me. Fingerprints and photos is dumb. Shouldn't need it but once...

It should be interesting to see how the fingerprint requirement goes especially with efile.

There is zero fee. Hell the name of a form 5 is even "tax exempt transfer". If you die and the nfa items need to be transferred it's quick and easy. And free. Form 5s only take a couple weeks from what I've heard (but that was at the height of things a couple years ago).

I still use a trust though. That way my brother and dad can use my toys without me being there. And if I do die there's no need for more paperwork to sort out. They just take them and put them in their safe lol

You need to shoot them both and figure out which one is more natural fit for you

Either will serve you well, both quality firearms...but one will likely fit you better

My suggestion....hold each one. Even better test fire each one.

Both are good guns. Reliable too. Pick the one that feels best in your hand

I've never once looked into it. I just knew my Cleo wasn't the signing type. I wasn't going to wait to see if I could persua him. And this why as I mentioned, my wife could take what she wanted and wouldn't have to rely on me being with her. It was my impression that to be passed on it needed another transfer. Such as selling, which resulted in another stamp. So what would stop someone from selling one and doing a form 5 to a friend? I need to read up on these.

Form 5s are a weird one. Its usually used for transferring to federal agencies. Ie suppressor manufacturers making suppressors for an army unit. But even that is sort of funky as the Fed agency doesn't have to file that they have it. It can also be used when sending a nfa item for repair. Though I've never heard of anyone doing that. But the premise is that the repair never really owns it so they don't pay tax but the form is a formal way of saying they possess it

When it comes to estates, the form 5 takes the stance that the transfer is involuntary. Your dead so you can't willingly transfer it lol. So they make a tax exemption for that. However the person receiving them must be part of the estate. So if your wife decides her friend Joe gets them, Joe's not part of the estate so it would be the form 4 and 200 bucks. But if you had Joe in your will to receive them, then it would be the form 5.

It's one of the few things the atf actually did that is good and makes sense.

I'm not sure how it applies directly to trusts though. Well trusts with more than one person. Like you had a wife as a beneficiary. She takes over the trust. I don't know if she could form 5 to say joe that was in your will. But that's where trusts are good cause you usually are all set anyways

I was looking between the exact two guns! Just like everyone else said, go to the store and feel and action both guns. Whichever feels best is the gun for you.

    I personally went with the G19... :D

My ten day waiting period was over yesterday so I could go pick up my G19. But of course I had to work and I may not even be able to get it today. :annoyed::angrygirl:

I'm hoping the client is early this afternoon so I can get back to the Bay Area before the gun store closes. Otherwise I'll be there when they open the door in the am.

It has crossed my mind many, many times. Who knows what will happen in the next several years with the rapidly changing political nonsense in CA. I may just end up leaving, but my wife and I have jobs at are fairly dependent on the success of the Silicon Valley.
