Would this V8 fit into my truck?

Would a 455 Oldsmobile V8 fit in the tacoma?? JW curious I tried searching for the size or dimensions of our engine or what could fit but didnt find anything

 

it would be very tight and super heavy u would b better off with a small block

 

anything can fit...instead of worrying about it fitting, you'd better be worrying about how you'd get it to pass emissions inspection.

 

Alright well it's a 74, does that mean it still needs to pass smog if i were able to get it to fit.. And what else would i need to look into besides just installing the engine?

this could possibly qualify for the stupidest thread on TW. why anyone would want to put a 35 year old motor in a 1 year old truck is beyond me. if you want more power get a supercharger and slap it in. If you just really want a new motor for some reason then swap in a toyota v8 not some old ass carb'd motor. don't get me wrong the 455 is a good motor and has great potential, but its not for a 08 tacoma.

Maybe you could put it in the bed, and use the drivetrain from a 1960s Oldsmobile Toronado.

 

Just curious but why? What do you want out of it? If its torque you want, look into gearing. To put a 455 in your truck is going to cost thousands. From custom engine mounts to custom driveshafts. Not to mention custom exhaust headers, custom power steering hoses, new trans/transfer case and custom crossmember, fabbed up oil pan to clear the front diff. If you really want to put that engine in a mini truck, throw it in a 4x4 s-10, way cheaper to do. To do this right in a taco is gonna be well over 10 grand, not worth it. Leave the Taco's drivetrain alone, and buy another project truck.

I mean lets get real here...this isn't even realistic. With all the electronics tied into the ecu it would take an electrical engineer to get everything straightened out. You would have more tied up in a swap than the truck would be worth. This thread IS stupid just like anyone who would really attempt it...jackass.

You should use one from a Toronado and mount the engine/trans in the bed. Get out the tape measure!

 

Actually, you could effectively remove most of the electronics during the swap, it would be a relatively cheap swap although probably not the most logical one. Dickwad.

 

I wasnt actually thinking about doing it. I wanted to know what the process would be and what i would actually need to change in my truck for this to be made possible. I just happen to have that engine and wanted to know if it was a possible project

 

It most definately would not be cheap, not to mention OP is in CA, therefore he would have a trail rig only because he would never be able to get it inspected....therefore back to my original point...this is a stupid thread and it would be stupid to do this to an 08 tacoma. Now...op go buy a 82 toyota pickup and swap the 455 into that....that would not be stupid, that would be badass.

 

It would be involved for certain, but doable. You would want to Do a Solid axle front suspension and cut out alot of Toyota parts.
