    My MPG is slowly increasing.

    16.5->19.2->20.96->21.2

    About 90% highway driving.

    I did my first average tank. Drove to work 3 times, did two 80 mile round trips, and some driving in the mountains. Had 20.3 mpg at the end of it

    Thoroughly unimpressed in this Department.... Have been driving like a grandma too. Love everything else about the truck but believe this was a huge whiff by Toyota.

    Yeah the city MPG of 19 is impossible to hit. Especially where I live. The traffic signals are rigged to keep having you needing to stop at each one. I'm lucky to get 13-14 on city streets. Freeway is where the truck isn't too bad. I get low 20's with ease.

    Mike, Agree. Speed limits here are 45mph on most major roads....so between lights you're gassing it up to 45-50 then stepping on the brake every block or two. If I drove 90% country highway or freeway I'd probably be averaging closer to 20. The only thing I have going for me here is the roads are flat and straight. Right now I'm probably at 5% off road miles, 65% city and 30% freeway mileage.

    I'm in the same boat. I'm getting 17 mpg if I'm lucky because I keep hitting every light in Irvine.

    If you want great mileage then you bought the wrong vehicle. For what most drive the Tacoma would not be my first choice IF I was concerned about gas mileage. NO truck is. If most of your driving is stop and go in small or large cities then a Prius is a much better option.

    Yep. I work in Irvine and when one light turns green the next one will turn red to slow you down. I think they're rigged like that on purpose there.

    Only averaging around 17 on my new taco. Probably 50/50 city/hwy. It seems like I am not getting the mpg in the hwy others are getting. Probably because 6th gear in the auto is a whole lot higher than 6th in the manual. Also I live in sf, which has gotta be just about the worst place ever to drive for mpg.

    I averaged right about 20 mpg in my lifted (3 inch) 05. But that truck had a shell that I swear really helped the mpg and was a pre runner. I also liked running around with extremely bald tires that helped a whole lot.

    I'm just at 18mpg...I have the double cab w/cover and drive 25% city 75% highway but the city is stop and go. It was just over 19mpg for the first couple of months. I got an alignment because of vibration, maybe they jacked it up

    This tank has 150 miles at 68mph and 140 miles at 60mph. Not bad. And 8 miles of streets. This is a 4x4 OR

    No way I could get 23 mpg no matter what I do. 18-19 on the highway driving conservatively is more like it. My son's 2007 Taco does just as well. I hear people say "If You bought a Tacoma for the mileage you made a mistake." At the same time you hear Toyota touting their new Atkinson cycle is designed to improve mileage. it was one of the reasons I bought the truck is that it was 'sposed to get a little better mileage. What a crock!. From where I set, looks like the Atkinson cycle's only "benefits" are that it adds expense and complexity to the vehicle.

    What tires are you running? Seems to me you ought to be getting way better than 19MPH on the highway. I get that around town. I have yet to do a long run on the highway as most of the time I am just running around town or out to the gun range. Nothing wrong with the engine and it does provide better fuel mileage than the Gen 2 4Litre.
