Yeah right, only recently Civic got the engine with timing chain (2006+) and I don't know how much you know about Honda engines but probably this is not the example you want to bring it up.. :D

And that would be 10 years now. Numbers don't lie. Face it, very car company has some kind of issues. So if the Tacoma is designed to run at high rpm to reach peak power under a load as it was in the video, why would they have it like that if failure is inevitable? Maybe Toyota should hire you and you can fix all their problems and tell them how to do it the right way. Apply at Honda too while you're at it

    From the Duramax owners manual.

My 4 stroke dirt bikes have timing chains and they last and I run the hell out of them. Timing chain rarely needs replaced. Usually I just do the piston and rings for peace of mind but they're still within tolerances.

Really surprised at the drag race results. 2015 smokes the 2016. Not sure of the distance they were running...hell the first gen manual beats it, maybe due to lighter weight I guess

Out of all the midsize trucks...i've got to say i'd probably feel the most confident with the tacoma. I am curious however how the chevy will do. I wonder if they are going to do another run with the 3.6L v6 or just keep the stats from last year. They should do it again though since the whole point system has changed, not that it matters. Think it's pretty funny how they changed this whole point system starting with the new tacoma though.

The diesel colorado or canyon would be interesting though...i'm sure the mpg will be better than the tacoma, but i'm guessing the time will be much worse. They are going to be towing with the new ridgeline as well, will be looking forward to that.

Yep...i know the 3rd gen is about 200-300 pounds heavier than the 2nd, so the 1st gen is most definitely lighter. Also the 1st gen was a manual so that helps. I think maybe if they sport shifted the 2016 it may have won, but who knows.

The drag race doesn't surprise me in the least. Obviously the lighter car will win in most cases. 4.0 will naturally beat the 3.5L off the line but if they were to race to 90 mph I bet the 3.5 would win because it has the HP edge.

The 2016 seems to go a little sideways at the start of the run, or the driver is pointing less than straight. They didn't even have the decency to go to a drag strip/ or set up timing lights. This one-off video in cold weather testing is less than meaningless...(and I don't own a 2016 so I've got no stake in this.)

Haha yeah I just noticed that, it looks like that happened during both races. I wonder if it was even a 0-60 run...seemed like it could have even been shorter than that.

    It was shorter for sure.
This is at a go kart track.
    We race supermoto there.
That back straight where they do the drag race is just long enough for me to hit 85mph on the bike before I have to brake hard to make the corner

Ah, that's what I thought. What bike do you have or used? Let me guess, DRZ400SM - that seems to be the go to bike for super moto.

I'm one of the biggest critics of the 3.5 but I have to say it towed good... Revving high like I new it would but it can do the job...
In the 2015 test they had to slow down but the 2016 clearly out pulls it once it's revved up and better trans and gearing combo...

The 4.0 seems to get up to speed better but the 3.5 seems to hold speed better.....

The 2016 has more HP than a single vvti 1GR yes, but it does not have a better trans. The 5-speed A750>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>AC60 trans from the 3rd gen 4/6cyl.

I bet the trans temps were way up there during the climb.

Nice, was thinking about getting the drz before i got my cb919. Would be cool if honda made something from the factory to compete with the drz. They only got the crf250l and 650 dual sports.

Trans temp stayed in then normal range. That is where having the tow package is important. It has a transmission cooler.

They really should do a test with the manual. I haven't seen an Ike Gauntlet test with a manual yet. Would be more of a test of the driver rather than the truck though. What I like about these tests is they don't try to fiddle with the paddle shifters. They let the truck figure it out.
