Hello, Does anyone see any issues installing a new set of 265/16R18 rims and tires from a 2016 Tacoma Limited onto my 2001 Tacoma doublecab? Will I need spacers?

I have also been looking at a 3 inch lift with 5100s for the front, and an Add A Leaf (AAL) for the rear?

I've had my 2001 since it was new. I just bought a new 2016 Doublecab. So now it's time to pass my 2001 to my 16 year old son. I'm trying to put on some wheels and a slight lift to make it "cool" for him.

Here is the lift I'm looking at: http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/Bilstein-lift-kit-with-5100-shocks-_p_1137.html

Will I need new Upper Control Arms or Brake Lines??

    Thanks for the help here.

You should take off one or 2 tires from your '16 and set them next to the tires on your 01 and take a pic from the side I'd love to see it

Guessing you wouldn't need a longer rear brake line when adding 2" to s stock, pre-sagged rear end. But the front end alignment could definitely be an issue at 3".

So I decided to go ahead and buy a set of 2016 Tacoma Limited wheels to install on my 2001 Tacoma. I think they look great. Now I need to figure out how to do a 2-3 inch lift!

I vote for no lift unless your going with a bigger tire. Thats real nice as it sits!

Those are pretty nice wheels! I hope you have plans for something pretty special on the new truck.

I also like those rims on there. The wheel gaps look like the ones on my '04 DoubleCab but I'll soon have mine about 1 - 1.5" higher from a suspension update. Some 18s will come later. Got 'em but need tires still.

I spent 3 hours today and got my 2001 Lifted with an Add a Leaf, and 4 new 5100s for about a 3 inch lift. I'm really happy with the new look.

I bought that truck new in 2001. I have tried to take good care of it. It has really taken care of me. Now I passed it down to my 16 year old son. We have had a great time wrenching on that truck together. I'm sure the truck is not worth a ton of cash, but it's priceless to me.

5100s and add a Leaf are in my list too. Do you mind sharing how much it cost you? A local shop says they are running a "promo" and will do everything for $950.. But I know the Bilstein's 5100s are not that expensive.

IMO, if you lift you're going to want a tire with a more aggressive tread and a taller sidewall. It will most likely look like this if you don't:

You bet. Here are the links for what I bought. I could not be happier. I installed the lift by watching a couple YouTube videos. The install was very straight forward and took my son and I exactly 3 hours. I did reuse my front coil springs. (I was lucky to have access to a coil spring compressor for the front shocks, but you may need to rent one or take the front springs assembly to a local garage.)

    $370.00 for 4 Bilstein shocks
    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com...ont-shocks-and-matching-rear-shocks_p_94.html

$21.00 Front shock bushings and washers
    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/Front-shock-replacement-bushingwasher-kit_p_35.html

    $85.00 Rear Add a Leaf
    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/Rear-ToyTec-Add-A-Leafs_p_303.html

Total of $476.00 plus shipping. I asked if they had a military or Christmas Special and he knocked off another few bucks for me. The guys at Toytec were extremely helpful and really easy to work with. I've never done anything like this, so they were really patient in answering all my questions.

I did NOT need new Control Arms or Brake Line extensions with this setup. But I DID require an $80.00 four wheel alignment at a local Pep-Boys.

Again, I couldn't be happier with the look, drive, and ride of the truck.

Here are two YouTube videos that were helpful to me:

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vQSBlXrFOUM

    Hope this helps.

I think you would be surprised by just how much that truck is still worth! Is it 4WD? I always love seeing original owners after so many years, how many miles do you have on it now? Also, out of curiosity, what airline do you fly for?

    I live in Florida....so it is a 2-Wheel drive.

The truck has about 120,000 miles. Other than preventative maintainance, tires, brakes, etc.....The only thing that has ever failed on the truck was an $80 Oxygen Sensor that took me 10 minutes to replace. I just love these Tacomas!

    I fly for Fedex.

Must be kind of nice to fly cargo, I was just curious because my Dad flew for AA for 30+ years.

With that low of mileage, that truck is going to last you forever! And it sounds like you'll have more kids to keep passing it on to, that's great. Your '16 is beautiful!
