I am looking into purchasing the Bilstien 5100 Adjustable shock for my 2010 SR5 PreRunner. is there anything to know before buying these? Good or Bad? and do they really level out the vehicle on their own without anything else needed? What size tire should will be able to fit under if they were set at 2.5 in only the front?
    Thanks

    Decent.

    Not at 2.5.

    265/75/16 or 265/70/17.

They are great inexpensive shocks with multiple perches. The 5100's work with oem spring but pair nicely with the Toytec spring as its a little longer.

Rides great on and off road.

To add, I ran them at the .85 setting and loved them. They made my truck level with the 3 leaf (2+1 overload) rear leaf pack that my truck had.

Most people with a 4 leaf OEM pack (3+1 overload) run the 5100s at 1.75 and it levels them out, occasionally it looks nose high to me but it could be camera angles and things, but maybe not.

If you run them at 2.5 they'll be quite stiff riding and will negatively effect driveability.

At 1.75 with an in spec alignment my truck drove poorly, though it handled well.

As in brake dive was gone, it handled well in corners with the extra stiffness - but it drove like total shit, tons of bump steer, darting while braking, and followed every low spot in the road and made my fiancée nervous to drive it.

So ... it handled well in corners ... then had tons of bumper steer ... when cornering?

My lift is at 1.75" and I experience none of the issues that DCSBFTMFW has pointed out. I would suggest to re-check your alignment. Sounds like you have issues with that more than the lift itself.

I am actually very interested in this, since I am thinking of buying these exact same shocks. I currently have a 2.5" spacer lift on factory suspension and I have NONE of these issues.

Well do a little reading, bro. There are a lot of people with the issues I outlined with 5100s at 1.75 and at 2.5.

run my 5100's at 1.75in setting with SPC lightracing UCA's... caster set to 3.4*, truck drives like a dream... MUCH better than with the stock uca that i was only able to get ~1.5* of caster out of.

    this.

I needed UCAs at 1.75, which is why I never buy into the only needed at 2.5" buzzing.

To clarify for the guy who isn't running these, my truck cornered great. It was the 99% of driving in a straight line that sucked.

it also has alot to do with if you lift the rear. People that go level or bro lean have an easier time getting caster numbers as the whole frame is tilted back. In my case i wanted to keep rake so when i load the truck and actually use it like a truck im not dragging my hitch everywhere looking like a looser. So i did 2 inches of lift all around. This made it harder for me to get my caster numbers as the frame was tilted forward.

That stated it wasnt terrible at 1.5* of caster but i knew it could be better. Also HATED how the uca hit coil at droop, the SPC arm fixed both those issues.

Have my new 5100s at .85", rides great... Yes, I had the alignment checked and adjusted after the install (as is recommended with any lift).

Since we are on the topic of adjustability, I have a question for the 5100 Gurus. Rears are 5100/Wheelers AAL, Fronts are 5100 set to .85 with Toytec/Eibach 112-620 (1.6). No aftermarket UCA's yet, so my question is.... If I want to level it out to match the rears, do I go with the next one up? or very highest one? I believe there are 4 settings? sorry I don't know the exact setting off top LOL. Also with leveling it up another notch or two will I NEED aftermarket UCA's or can I go with the stock UCA's for the time being.

For those that are interested, 4 Wheel Parts seems to be the best price at $95.
