Then not sure why Gold Plug would supply a plain washer with it then

Dumb question but when you remove the oil filter plug do you need to have the hose right there to instantly slide on? Or does it have a valve to get the oil to come out.

Oil filter plug? You referring to under the filter housing? No valve. You need either a hose or bottle to catch the oil

The hose is a PITA due to the skid plate below. I'll be using a bottle for mine next week. Also, I'd expect the catch basin to get pretty full if not allowed to drain while removing the filter.

I dropped the fucking mountain duy bottle into the skid plate. bright sunlight and couldn't see shit, but finally got it out with a stick from above. About an ounce to drain into it is all. Better than a hose.

What mess? Bottle for the filter and fujitomato valve on the pan. It's a one paper towel job, and that's just for the catch pan.

If I went offroad, I would be concerned about that also.

Open a few turns of oil filter and live it a minute then turn all the way out to remove the filter. This way no oil dropped

I'm sick of overpaying for a single quart of oil every time I do a change. Would there be an issue with just buying an extra 5 qt jug and using half a quart of it at each oil change? Is there a "shelf life" once it's opened? My thought is that it should be fine, but wondering if I'm missing something.

I just changed the oil in mine today. I didn't have time to find a drain hose to attach to the fitting as others have mentioned so I decided to try what another poster mentioned: take out the drain plug then crack the oil filter open slightly to "break the vacuum", supposedly to drain all the oil from the filter with none running into the aluminum housing. I even poked a hole in the top of the filter with an awl (easy to do with very little pressure). It did not work... Next time I'm going to take the time to install a drain tube...

I went online and presented this question to Mobil a few months ago. Their answer was 1 y. for opened bottles; 5 yrs. for unopened bottles

Which simply means that they haven't made any tests on longer periods of time, and are most happy to sell you fresh product.

I just finished changing my oil for the first time. All the other changes were covered by Toyota. Very easy. I used a strech cord and plastic cup like in the picture on the first page. No leaks at all. The only thing that pissed me off was there was no rubber cover on the nipple and no crush gasket on the drain plug (not even stuck to the pan). The dealership has done all of the previous changes. No more.

Is that typical to have a crush gasket at the drain plug? I've never seen that before.

    Not a crush like a spark plug crush. It's a plastic/fiber washer.

    Hello:
Does anyone have pics or a video of an oil change on the new 2016 V6 yet? Could not find anything with a "search." This would be useful to have here.

Pretty much the same as a Camry/Avalon/Sienna/RAV4/Highlander, etc. Don't worry about filling the filter. Not needed.

You had to have some sort of gasket on there. Otherwise you would have dripped/leaked everywhere.
