I dislike the duckies obviously but the problem with that team is motivation IMO ... at the start of season I really thought LA was tanking as rebellion against staff decisions and then SOMETHING changed. I think Sutter & Dean/Luc/Blake had emergency compromise (something ANA can't figure out) with the TEAM and got whatever disdain worked out.

Consistant and well tempered motivation. I imagine that is tough to get out of players who aren't naturally that way.

Indeed, at this level "they" know what to do it's motivation the players need, not so much x's and o's . If you play the my rules or your out card ...better hope the whole TEAM is on board.

Sweet. 8 million per year when he's 35!

This deal is going to hurt LA if the salary caps stagnates with the low CAD.

Edit: Oh, and let's not forget the 10 mil cap hit in his later years.

    Actually TSN was right:
The Kings needed to get a deal done soon to avoid letting this thing get too long in the tooth. If LA had of let this slip till playoff time it could of hurt the chances a deal would get done.

No, LA is going to be paying out the nose for this guy in his later years... in a league with a likely stagnant salary cap. This deal will hurt LA in a few years but I understand that they also had to do it to keep the fickle LA fans coming to games. If, and when, the team slips again they won't have the popularity they do now and players like Kopitar keeps butts in the seats.

10 million cap hit at 35... and the economists are predicting a 59 cent Canadian dollar by the end of the year. I'm guessing you are too young and stupid to remember what happened to league revenues last time the dollar dipped down that low. The cap will stagnate at best. There is even a chance it will shrink. Heavy back end contracts like this are really going to hurt in a few years.

Yes, I get it, Kopi is a center and arguably a top 5 player at that position. However he isn't a big goal scorer nor is he a defensive player of the year candidate. He has a great blend of skill and defensive play that is rare but at what level will he be at in 4 years? If Kopi was 24 I'd have a totally different opinion, but he's not. He's 28 and will likely go down hill from this point. Will LA be able to pay for the players to help with his skill set with all the cash locked up in him? This is a deal that isn't going to look good in a few years. It'll help big time now but not in the future.

Oh, and fuck open market value. When was the last time a great player hit the open market and wasn't overpaid. You know nothing about the game and it's hilarious to watch you continue to run your mouth like some little 12 year old piece of shit douche bag. Is that daddies truck you're driving?

Okay. I guess it's worth sewering the future for a few more years of top end play. Have fun with that contract LA :proposetoast:

It's a gamble when you ink a contract like that. I understand what both of you are saying. Anaheim paid for Kesler for the same reason. If either team wins a cup or two it's the smartest move ever. If they don't it's the worse contract ever.
