Some dealers will play, some won't. Bought a new John Deere garden tractor from Maine, Kubota dealer said they couldn't. Depends on dealership.

Anyways this is a theoretical agument, enough time spent by me.

Fair enough lol, I wasn't trying to piss you off. I was enjoying the conversation.

On another note I'm sure they don't care on a lawn tractor, but try that shit with a John Deere agriculture dealer. John Deere is sold at Lowes so really they can't stop that sort of sale even if they wanted. However on the shit they keep in house at branded dealers it'll be no dice... if it's not that dealer is just risking the wraith of the parent company over a minor sale to someone who won't likely be a repeat customer.

Hey, I have an idea, how about you sell your Tacoma into the USA and repeat it a few times? I'm sure we'd all grab the  and enjoy the suspense of what would actually happen. Especially if you managed to hit a half dozen trucks!

Love the discussion, exactly the info I was hoping for, much appreciated.
I was once looking at moving a few 2012"s... Saw the ratio was excellent in this range... But then backed off.
I do love tacos, but damn, that 2017 raptor looks amazing.

To be honest once you've owned the truck a few thousand K I doubt anyone, even Toyota, cares if you sell it. Used car dealers do it all the time but remember how easy it is to saturate the market. Right now I bet it'd be okay to sell a truck into the Northern USA but give it a few more months and the market will saturate with all the dealers doing it. Then you'll have to go farther and farther to make it work taking more and more risk... yeah it doesn't sound like fun. Like anything the first people who figure out how to make money doing it make all the good cash and the guys later make barely anything.

I'm wondering when we start seeing our prices on trucks increase. Last time this happened, in the early 2000's, I remember truck prices spiked a year or two later.

If I was to drive to the USA my new truck would have close to 1000km on it anyway. If that's all it takes not to be "black listed" as you put it that's a very easy way to make money. The last new truck I test drove was a dealer trade and had just over 600km on it and was new.

My John Deere can not be found at Home Depot, only at John Deere dealerships. Those tractors you see are Home Depot are not a true John Deere. Just like the husquvarna chainsaws they sell, husky dealers won't touch those disposable things.

I work in Ag. Trust me I know what you mean about true John Deere or not. You're talking about the higher end tractors with actual JD "engines" in them (they are on contract build with someone else, but whatever they still say JD on them). They still don't care because that market isn't going to go away over a few cross border transactions. JD's bread and butter is heavier stuff. Try it with that sort of gear and you'd be outta luck.

Kubota is a totally different story. They are small equipment. That's their money maker. That's probably the difference right there.

As for the exact way Toyota's list works you won't find that online. I'm sure you could do it for a while but I have no idea what set of parameters would instigate trouble on your side. That's why I was half joking about trying it :D.

Another issue would be selling the truck. I'm guessing it would be tough, not impossible though, to sell the truck over whichever online US source you use while based in Canada. Plus you could end up with a no deal when you show up with the truck. Lots of things could go wrong to hang up the sale unless you set it up perfectly which would take a fair chunk of work. A lot more than a married guy with a kid like me would have. Then there's the fraud risk.

Ya, no way I would even want to do this. Just saying I see my local dealer do this often right now even my local Toyota dealer where I took my 2012 told me it would more likely than not go to the USA. They all are in it to make the most money they can.

But hey it's a ram, can't give them away right? Lol I kid I kid!

Oh yeah, I know my local Toyota dealer is selling into the USA. It's easy for them though. All they have to do is advertise in the nearest US cities via social media and BAM. I think my local dealer even has a deal with two or three US dealers... That's the way to do it. Everyone wins! Except the guy who got hosed on his CAD trade lol.

It's easy to sell Rams. They are by far the cheapest truck on the market both new and used. When you look around here by far the most common pickup of choice of small town early 20's minimum wage earners is a 3-6 year old Dodge Ram.

I think I remember that. Part of the problem was though that Harley has some collector and dealer clauses that you legally enter into when you buy their products so they had legal grounds. I think the guy lost every penny he made IIRC.

I just did a kijiji search for 2012 f150, 2012 ram sport, 2012 Silverado and 2012 tundra in Calgary. All range from 25-32 thousand, except for limited, Denali trims etc. There are 2012 ram sports on there with 140,000 km for 30 grand. Your story about how Rams are so cheap and only poor people buy them is such bull. Whatever turns your crank I guess......

The sad thing is that I bet you that every truck you looked up is for sale for whatever is left on the loan by some oilfield guy who lost his job. No one is paying 30K for a 3 year old truck with over 100k on it.

As for the Ram... yeah it's cheaper to start and cheaper to buy used. That's not me being an ass. That's just the way it is. That doesn't mean only poor people have them. It does make them easier to own for sure though.

theres no restriction on the sale of your toyota. dealers aren't allowed to sell to to us customers.

the only problem is to sell in the us you need a letter from toyota stating the us and canadian versions are the same.

toyota doesn't want to give these letters out.....

i saw 4 brand new rams at the border last week. headed south.

Same with fabricators…they are all in the US….charging US dollars. So I will wait, pasti-dip my grill for $14 instead of the insane $400+ custom grills….might be a long wait though lol.
I find Partsengine.ca has the best prices on truck accessories.

If you must have something from the USA look into shipping it to a business on the border. It's often cheaper than shipping to your door and if you can make a trip out of it then it could be worth it to you.
