Bed storage container ideas

I need a "Flush Mount Box" or one built into the Cover.

This could work but not very big and none for the 2016 Tacoma

I think I'm looking for a "Utility Chest" that would have a nice width in the back next to the cab.
I see Toyota is showing the inside width of the bed as 56.7"
Does this mean I can drop and secure a 56" width chest in the back or does it taper in towards the bed floor?
with a bed depth of 19.1" these should work. If I have a tri fold cover , does it take up any more space?

What tri fold allow you to open the tri fold next to the cab and the tail gate both.

I would like to be able to just open the trifold near the cab to access the box.

Also any suggestions on how to bolt the Utility Box the bed floor?

It looks like it actually has 4 panels, but you can open from either end.

Also check out the Diamondback SE - they are more expensive, but looks like a much sturdier and more secure cover.

Anyone have any tips on bolting the box to the floor of the trick bed?

 

I bolted bed rail to the floor.
The box bolts in with t-slot nuts so I can take the box in and out, no hassle.
Use the drainage holes as your reference, when checking underneath.

 

can you take more pictures of the process, picture of the box bolts in with t-slot nuts please and where you got the extra bed rail?

I personally like the side mounted boxes, that way u have the full length of the bed and only lose 8-16" of width depending on style. I have seen some that use the cargo management rail for mounting.

Are you buying a long bed or short bed?
It's 42" between the wheel wells.
I'd imagine 56.7" is the rail-to-rail dimension.

 

good point , I 'm getting a short bed., I was thinking the box space was before you get to the wheel well.
Now that I see it I realize I'll need a 42" box.
I like the rail you placed
What height will I need ip I want to keep it below the rails , in case I want a cover later on.

What box did you get?

Because of the bed rail it's mounted on, it does stick up passed the top of the bed rail just barely.
I'm pretty sure if you mounted it directly to the bed it would not; it's 18-1/2 tall.
Give me a little bit; I'll pull it and post pics.

 

This is some door mat material I cut up to keep down on noise.






stainless 3/8" hardware and neoprene washers used throughout


Install t-nuts in rail before bed bolts; t-nuts are too tall to clear by sliding over.
Bed rail sections are 18-1/2"


-the bed rail is just a hair too wide to sit flat in the valleys
-I cut and glued some vinyl wall trim material so it would clear

-this was a pain to get to; I used electrical tape to hold my hardware together while I threaded it on 'blind'

1. do think galvanized or Stainless bolts are needed for under the bed.
2. the holes in the bed. Did you drill all four for the rail mount or are you using two closest to the cab and then only drilling two extra holes.
did you have any issues accessing the under side of the bed.
3. did you use loctite on the rail bolts?
4. I'm having a hard time finding the rails online. (what did you pay for them?)
