We do this route with our 2002 Tundra V8 4.7L with 245hp towing about the same weight and we're lucky if we manage to maintain 30mph while tacking about 5k.

So I'm impressed that they maintained 60mph with that kind of weight.

    Huh.
You stated using some anecdotal evidence that Honda Civic is using Timing chain and has no problems. Clearly you did not knew Civic switched to Timing chain in 2006, and as I just posted one of the problems on Civic engines, there are problems, which very quickly destroys your anecdotal evidence.

Now Your attempt to minimize this, dismiss it and than carry on personal attack shows that you lost argument because simply you know shit, and now you trying to save whatever little face you can.

Since clearly your mechanical skills are probably on par with your math skills (2009 is not 10 years ago) what would you like to discuss next ? Perhaps your potty training achievements ?
Now I am on Honda and Toyota forums so please, please

How timing chain is great for high rev engines.

On the side note, never mind new 2016 Tacoma, but i would absolutely stay far away from used one. Last thing you want is to purchase vehicle with strained motor, one that had timing chain and beaten to pulp.
That engine maybe great in Sienna but nobody is beating on Sienna or pulling 5000 lb trailer behind it. Not to mention running in 4lo.
Repair costs could make that truck pretty quickly not worth as used vehicle.

Bluet, you did write 2006. 2016-2006 is? And that would be 10 yrs ago. Need a calculator? You know how many motorcycles use timing chains? I guess those are junk too.

I wrote 2006+ as starting with 2006 Civic had timing Chain but the problem I linked for you is for 2006-2009 Civics. Why would you start counting since 2006 is beyond me. You wrote that Civics had no problems and I gave you an example of that not being true ...
Now you just trying to produce excuses.
    Like.... you mentioning Motorcycles....
Not sure what motorcycle has anything to do with this here. they don't tow, or they don't haul 4 people with luggage or they don't drive everyday year round, or they dotn run heavy accessories with passengers.
Fact is timing chain engine are not high reveres and hig reving them leads to nothing good.

I know I'm late, but why didn't they shift the thing into 4th or 5th going down the downhill? Cmon guys, this isn't a Honda that is going to brake and downshift itself going downhill

It does downshift by itself. It wouldn't be running 6000 RPM's in 6th gear.

The TFL guys don't manually downshift or upshift. They want to test each truck apples to apples without driver skill coming into play. Only way to do that is to let the truck do it's thing. If one truck has more aggressive grade shifting programmed in the computer, they want to know that and test it. Hence no manual shifting.

Definitely would be a test of the driver. With the six speed manual 4.0 I would miss a downshift now and then, particularly from 5th to 4th. As you know, towing uphill on 6%+ grades you miss a downshift and that will cost you about 15mph that is hard to recover. Auto trans is better for towing.
Yeah, eastbound from the Silverthorne onramp. Seems like a good comparison area because if traffic is light they can run WOT using the fast lane if they aren't scared of cutting off the Audis, Mercedes, etc trying to run it at 75mph.
