For all the shit people used to say about the Rugged Trails, they were a good highway tire...

You have to manually add the parameter IDs: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/write-up-torque-app-obd2-reader.183560/page-9#post-4320749

For anyone else reading, the above is for 2nd gen trucks, 2010+.

Well I just picked up my truck from the Toyota service department today. I dropped it off because when the truck is cold the truck would shift hard into first gear when coming to a complete stop between 10-6 mph. They didn't want to check it but I persisted. They did check it but they needed all day cause they needed the truck's transmission fluid to be cold to verify the level. Since my truck has the tow package I figured it has to be low in transmission fluid which it was. The transmission was 2 quarts low so they topped it off and now the truck is driving really smooth as it should for a truck with only 1600 miles.

I'm thinking the techs aren't checking the trans fluid during the dealer prep....
Mine has tow package, had intermitent shift issues since early on, just had it checked, almost a quart low...

I think I read that the dealers don't check the AT fluid since it is not very simple and takes time.

The tranny fluid isn't checked cold. That's what makes it more of a hassle than it should be.

Well the Toyota technician told me he had to wait for the truck to be cold so he can check the level of the tranny fluid which in my case was two quarts low.

If he checked it cold he did it wrong.

I know you are answering they guy's question for his 2nd gen but, has anyone confirmed using these same PID settings will work on Gen3 to get tranny fluid temp?

This. Even in Tacomas from the last century, where they still had dipsticks, tranny fluid level should be checked at operating temperature.

I called the Toyota dealership and spoke to the technician who worked on my truck and he performed the tranny fluid check exactly as one of the links on here states it should be checked. The way the service writer explained it to me was not correct, about waiting for tranny fluid to be cold.

Its easier to get it to temp after its cold than it is to get it to cool down enough to be within range. Thats probably why they had you leave it.

Yes, that's correct. You do need to start from cold to warm up rather down check it as the temp is dropping so maybe just poor communication.

Just put the truck in temp check mode and pulled the overflow plug. Nothing came out, not even a drip. Going to add some ATF but not 100% sure where the fill plug is. I see a plug on the trans that has WS stamped on it. I assume that is it but want to see if someone can point me directly to it. Want to make sure i fill in the right spot

You fill it like a diff. Hole for checking is hole for filling so, make sure you are checking the correct hole.

^I don't think that works with transmissions, since there's more fluid in the pan while the engine is off, and you shouldn't fill the tranny while it's running.

On 2nd gens there are three plugs: a fill plug at the top, an overflow plug in the pan, and a drain plug in the pan. Probably the same arrangement on 3rd gens.
