time for changes

    2012 Tacoma Access Cab TRD off-road
    Just purchased a 2012 Tacoma Access Cab TRD Off-road.
    Going to be a great vehicle for road tripping to SW Colorado's San Juan mountains, where high alpine jeep trails abound.

    But first I think I need better tires.

    The Toyota dealership where I bought the truck used put on brand-new P265/70R16 Yokohama Geolandar H/T tires, but as far as I know these are road tires, and I need tires that will hold up O.K. to the sharp rocks of the CO jeep trails. But on the other hand, there will be a lot of highway miles so I want them to work O.K. there too. And also in the snow. Good mud capability is not a major requirement. From reading these boards it looks like the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 is a possibility, but maybe there's better?

    Lots of people like their BFG KO2's. I myself will probably be blasted for saying this, but you should take a look at @teamhypoxia's build. He actually runs MICHELIN tires. He's had both M/S2's and present A/T2's. Here is his thread with all his adventures. They run great on road and if pictures are worth 1000 words well.....he's got a novels worth.     Thanks for the responses.

    Looking at BFG KO2, Cooper Discoverer A/T3, and Michelin LTX A/T2.

    One thing that might help me decide is the load range.
    The BFG K02 only seem to come in load range E, which I understand is a 10-ply equivalent tire.
    While that might be overkill on the highway, I really want the tires to be very puncture resistant on sharp rocks. (I blew a tire on a rental SUV once, but of course that had really junky tires on it and I was lucky to get out with only one flat.)
    Am I going to have a really rough pavement driving experience with E tires? Searching all kinds of board threads, it seems opinions are all over the place.

    @teamhypoxia presently has LTX A/T2 Michelins on his truck. They are Load Range E and he swears by them. He loves them. Says the ride in the range E is wonderful.
