My dog had an accident in the house (yay) and the day after I wiped up the pee puddle I noticed one of the board ends is now sitting proud of the surrounding floor.

Is that just how it's going to be or can I try and re-set the end somehow?

First time I've had hardwood - always had laminate. With a dog, it sucks. Looking forward to selling the house and having to comp the new owners for replacing it. :bananadead:

Just curious, as I just installed laminate in the upstairs hallway and 2 bedrooms, has your dog pissed on the laminate? If so, did the laminate swell? I heard laminate was more prone to swelling than real hardwood.

Not an expert by any means, but is the hardwood still fastened to the subfloor? Is it an option to sand/plane it down?

Not sure, the accident thing is new.

I meant it sucked because it is scratched and dented to hell from her claws and we've only been here for a year. Laminate at my folks house has had 2+ dogs in the house for over 15 years and there's only 3 scratches on the entire house - none from dog claws.

Yea one thing I've heard about laminate is it is great against scratches.

    Good luck on the fix.

definitely need to go with a much harder wood next time around or an engineered hardwood. rather than pay out the wazoo for the type we liked, I ended up going with the wood look tile which turned out great. (sorry, didn't really answer your question).

Came with the house and it's a temporary dwelling, otherwise I'd replace it all.

    Too soft, for sure.

Is it a true, solid hardwood floor.... or an MDF with a veneered face? Got a pic?

If its a true hardwood, each course would 'cup', but not really swell. Your description says (to me) it's an MDF veneered surface and the fluid got into the butt ends and swelled the panel.

    Veneered face.

    You'd be correct. :D

Need some help from the electrical gurus. Want to replace a very old toggle switch/outlet with a new one.

    image.jpg image.jpg

On one side as shown in the top photo there is a jumper between the switch and outlet. On the other side there are two other wires attached so a total of three wires. Does anyone now what wires would go where on the new toggle switch/outlet? Any help appreciated.

You are correct that the switch controls the outlet and I know the new switch will have wiring instructions but I'm unsure what wires from the original switch will go where on the new switch. This is 1947 wiring. Was hoping for some insight based off the original switch.

I'm sure you will have Hot and Neutral and ground wires existing that will wire the same way. Do you still need to the switch to control the outlet?

The black wire (hot) connects to an outlet on the brass-colored terminals....

The white wire (neutral)is connected to the silver-colored terminal..

Green goes on the Green screw...

Now you can quit stab the wires into the back of the outlet as long as the holes are for the correct wire gauge you have.I would screw them down on each terminal for a secure connection...

I have been able to verify the wire colors as red going to the jumper side of the switch, white to the other side of the socket and black to the other side of the switch.

Got a pic of the box in the wall... the wires?

Do you really want/need to have the receptacle switched?

Just go with a single gang duplex if you want.
