I bought a new 2016 Tacoma LE in Indiana and drove it to Utah. It is staying in Utah. When I put it in 4wd and turn a tight circle it jumps. Is that normal?

Do not use 4wd on dry pavement, especially while turning. Come on, read the manual. Or atleast use the search button. 10th thread of this I've seen

Depends on whether it jumps completely over the rope.
Seriously, completely normal to get a little binding when turning sharply in 4wd, even in the dirt.

Even on snow or a similar surface you can experience the same thing if you have the wheel fully cranked

Keep it in H2 until you have wheel spin (lose traction). Press the VSC button quickly to help you move from a stop in 2WD (this is AUTO LSD, an enhanced level of limited slip control). Press again, quickly, to return to normal TRAC.

The guys question was is the hopping normal in 4WD in a tight turn , the answer is yes

It doesn't even say anywhere that he was on pavement

Not if you are in snow! If you are in snow you need to be already in 4hi, by the time you start spinning in H2 you could already be in the ditch

What's snow? (says the guy in San Diego)
Yes, I would be in 4WD on snow... But on snow, there wouldn't be the binding issue (or enough to be an issue). As I said, with traction loss (tire spin), then go into 4WD. If 4WD was required on snow, then only 4WD vehicles could drive on snow... and we know plenty of 2WDs drive on snowy roads. He is a newbie to 4WD, so I was giving simple answers. If you don't need 4WD, don't engage 4WD... It does use a lot more gasoline, after all.

It can still bind up at full lock on snow

I usually put it in 4HI when theres snow on the road mostly because I live in a hilly area and out coastal snow is usually pretty wet but thats irrelevant to the point about binding on snow at full lock in 4WD
