    My brother sat at the antenna and at the truck with speaker all the way up while I transmitted and moved to the next channel and listened for interference and then tuned it. The screw is almost all the way loose probably 3 turns in but there isn't interference. Clear broadcast and receive 5 acres away.

    You need an swr meter to tune it. Be careful with transmitting with an untuned antenna, you can fry your radio.

    haha, yeah, I was going to say, I still would want to check it with a meter. ;)

    Looking at that, though, I think I've been being a little draconian with the space needed to tune the antenna. I thought I had read that it was supposed to be a couple hundred feet, but this says it only has to be 50 feet or so.

    Now I'm freakin' curious. I've sort of been planning to swap my other radio into the truck and check to see what it does with the new antenna. (Before, it would only give me about 2.5 with the 2' antenna, while the radio that's in the truck now was getting me down to 2.2 or so.) I think I'm going to try it to see what it does and while I'm at it I'm going to test out what leaving the cap off the antenna does to the SWRs.

    Oh, and the reason I want to check the other radio is because it's customized with a roger beep module, so I would really rather be using it instead. :D

    (Heavy sigh) sometimes I look at the big prerunner guys and get jealous. They're so big and fancy looking reminds me of old Sheila with her db lift on 35s oh wellll you guys' trucks are pretty awesome

    Well, I went and did some more investigating on the OGT this morning. I popped the driver side boot off the steering rack and had mom wiggle the tire while I watched to see what moved. Turns out, damn near everything. The steering rack piston was moving all over the place and the brand new inner tie rod I just replaced (it only had one trip to Ocala on it) was moving in and out in the socket as well. Fortunately, it has a lifetime warranty on it. I just have to figure out to get it warrantied at Rockauto. Gonna have to get that steering rack guide from Toyota as well. o_O

    Also, I figure while I'm at it, I might as well replace the outer tie rod on that side as well to match the beefier-looking greaseable Moog I just put on the other side.
