Meh, I just wear gloves. I have a nice pair of work gloves that keep my hands warm.
And, in MA, an excise tax, registration and insurance fees.

Shrug. Registration is $60 a year and the insurance is under $100. More than worth it for me since it does double duty as a plow truck in the winter and a firewood hauler in the summer.

Works for me, not so much for the wife.
Wouldn't want you to scratch the bed in the shiny Tacoma.

That being said, I wouldn't want my daily driver to be my plow truck either.

Honestly I'd considered getting a little Fisher Homesteader put on when I first bought it, but the local Fisher dealer quoted me $4500 and I decided that rather than spend $4500 on something light-duty that I had to baby (because DD) I'd just spend $2000 on an older heavy unit that I could use hard and not worry about breaking.

The old Speedcast I have on the Dodge is a LOT more rugged than the Homesteader I was looking at, and to be honest the Dodge is ten times the work truck the Tacoma is. It does a better job of handling heavy weight in the bed than the Tacoma does; I've had over 2000lbs in the bed and it hasn't been on the bump stops yet. And it handles the weight of the plow much better than the Tacoma would have. Even if I can't plow with the storm it doesn't matter; I've pushed though 4 foot heater banks with the Dodge and it doesn't care.

I love love love Tacomas as DD's or play trucks, but they're just not built for heavy work. :notsure:

I agree. My wife and I are looking to move so I started pricing out what different things would cost if we got more land, longer driveway, etc. For a full size, I'd have several thousand into a plow or, for similar money or maybe a little more, I could just buy a tractor with a plow that will do the driveway as well as yard work. Plus the added stress on the front end of my daily driver just makes it a non-viable option.

Exactly. Even full-sized trucks aren't built to handle a plow anymore, unless you opt into at least a 3/4 ton. Spend the money on something else, and spare your DD the extra strain.

Edit- Plus, it lets you get a tractor, which you should always do.

Yeah, my buddy went to uncle that works at a Ford dealer and sold him his F-150 to talk about a plow, they do not recommend putting a plow on the F-150. LOL!!! You can do it, but Ford does not recommend it.

I believe that's across the board. They'll prep the half ton pickups for a plow but none of them are 'recommended' to actually plow.

Yeah, they'll sell you a 'plow prep package' but if you want them to put a plow on they tell you not to do it, to buy a 3/4 ton

Which, honestly, isn't a bad idea. Most of the 1/2 tons I've seen with plows on them over the last few years are dragging their chins on the ground, unless they're using the super light-duty polymer units. Saw a GMC 1500 with an 8-foot v-plow on it the other day; the front suspension on that thing was just begging for mercy.

My dad had to lift the front of his 2011 Ram to use a plow.

Not sure yet, we want to get off the main road, I want more land or back into state land. Lots of options out there, we're doing a lot of research on areas, schools, etc now.

I thought they were good. No drama, no slipping. I kept a speed between 45-60 the whole way to Logan and they felt good the whole time. Put it in 4wd for piece of mind, but probably didn't need it.
