The average cost of a Tacoma in 1999 was 17k. That's 24k in today's money. Avg Tacoma price in 2015 is 30k. For 6k extra you better get those extra luxuries. I somewhat agree that they have taken a simple truck and made it what it is today. But, the big trucks have only improved with time. Why can't the mid size? That's the issue I see.

I bought my 2010 for the same reasons, what I was told was Toyotas amazing reliability.

Rusted rear bumper, malfunctioning blower motor, squealing windshield seal, blocked defroster vent, a frame showing signs of rust not to mention three recalls later I no longer have such ideals as those have been tempered with personal experience. All with 70,000 kms on rhe truck which isn't much. The truck is not abused, more so babied.

Owned 3 Hondas, one Nissan and a Jeep all with similar amounts of mileage on each. If you add up all the problems on those vehicles they would be about 1/2 of what I have on my Tacoma.

Thankfully my truck has not left me stranded but I'm no longer a kool aid drinking believer.

My first Toyota was an '85 4Runner, they are leaps and bounds better than that. (better is a relative term though) I feel they have gone away from their roots, and are catering to the image but still want to be coddled in the mother's bosom crowd.

Toyota used to be in competition with themselves, now not so much. I liked when they were quirky...they have become too Americanized. Wish they continued to offer the HiLux here, like they do in the rest of the world. The Tacoma is watered down, yet fluffed up version of shit you really don't need of that.

HiLux has a similar payload of out American 1/2 tons....in a nice somewhat compact package, that is fuel efficient...that is what I really want. But we can't get it, the tacoma will have to do.

That's exactly what I said too. These problems shouldn't be happening in the first place. All auto manufacturers are getting worse in quality. Its just too bad that fanboys think the new Tacoma is still comparable to the Toyotas of the 90s. Those days are gone, Toyota doesn't have to prove themselves anymore. Now they're just focused on getting as many vehicles on the road as quickly as possibly.

It's true. We're the first of a new generation here, so we're the guinea pigs. I wouldn't recommend buying the first of any new generation unless you are prepared for a few flaws or the type to develop solutions/work-arounds DIY style until the manufacturer can address it.

And I tell you what, I've gotta give @TacoBella mad props for sticking to his guns when he identified a problem and stubbornly working on a solution even when others (myself included) were dismissive. It's people like him that Toyota needs as their first line customer.

Also, never underestimate the Hyundai, these days. They're laying some pretty good products down on the US market.

*Edit* But whatever you do, stay away from the Big Three.

Funny, we did the opposite thing but for different reasons....had a 2007 RAV4 that was like a house payment due to an upside down nightmare volvo we ditched along with some credit issues and we used to 2010 GC and 2012 Elantra to get out of the mortgaged priced RAV4 (which we loved and had no mech issues) and get back to where we traded in the Elantra on a 2013 RAV4 with credit back to good and are paying less than half on it as we were on the 07. I think the 13 was 1st gen of new RAV4 and it has been great with no issues.........but it was built in Canada, not US or Mexico. hmmmmmm................

And I suppose I will throw in that this is only my second Toyota ever, and although I've been impressed with both my 2nd and 3rd gen Tacos, I admit that there are some things about the 3rd gen that let me down vice the 2nd, and I also have moments where I feel Toyota could have done better.

That's neither here nor there. OP, I'm definitely sorry that you're getting all the issues, but stick to your guns and work to get them resolved. I agree, some of these things shouldn't have rolled off the line this way, but don't lose heart. You've still got a good truck!!!

*edit* full disclaimer: No issues on my 3rd gen. Better experience than my 2nd gen. Some fit and finish issues I fixed in my driveway that were nothing to really cause a fuss about. Admittedly thought "how did they let this get through?" and then fixed the problems in 30 seconds or less.

The things that let me down are the new transmission and the entune system. Neither are deal breakers, just things I have to adjust to.

No reason to stay away from them at all. People hate to hear this but Ford Chevy and Dodge are putting out eqaul product Toyota is. And in some areas, the other trucks exceed Tacoma.

Bah! I was only joking. But goodness gracious your bold statement might incite some seriously debate from the more enthusiastic owners.

I'm use to it. Common sense tends to get reaction around here. Lol

Good thing IMO they are all equal and to each thier own. So unless it's someone that just has the wool over thier eyes. A case can be made for any of them.

All I'm going to say is that my wife had a 2006 Kia Sportage that we put 140,000 miles on with only oil changes and a timing belt at 60 or 100k I forget. That was the best, most reliable, vehicle I have ever owned.

Wind Howling... Not an issue, it's a freakin noise.
Don't like the transmission? I guess you should have test drove it a little better...

The other 2 is called warranty issues.

All you fuckers do is find the smallest shit to complain about. I just took my 2016 TRD OR Double cab mudding yesterday and it performed fantastic. I am so pissed at Toyota though... I mean there is mud everywhere and it is so difficult to clean it!! (Sarcasm)

One can never have too many light bars.
Yeah Toyota should have added a self power-washing feature. Damn cheapskates.

I imagine that some of the kinks have already been worked out by Toyota even though it's only been in production 5 months or so. Warranty claims go all the way to the top. It's in Toyota's best interest to correct the problems as soon as possible.

How is it possible for the ceramic to make it through the engine? It's sealed from the engine. If anything it's more likely the plug wire was loose and the ceramic managed to Crack with pieces falling out of the engine.

I too have had no issues. It's not as if these problems are happening with all Tacoma owners.
