Unfortunately they have happened enough that just about everyone has at least heard of these MINOR issues.

Did you go into mud puddles or more like this vid (go to 8:00). Last time I went into mud puddles on my 2000 Civic hatchback it performed great!

I love the over 10 Toyotas that I have owned. I also love the resale value when I go to trade them in. There are some things that we wish they would do different, but in the end we love them.

I'm not a mechanic, just quoting what Hyundai told me.

Chill with the f-bomb. I'm very happy with the Tacoma. I'm very unhappy that Toyota let the truck roll into the dealerships with these "MINOR" issues like the hood that vibrated enough to cause a strobe light effect when driving into the sun and a leak that soaked my son's school pants. Bottom line is that even if this is a new vehicle it doesn't excuse Toyota from failing to put a couple thousand miles on a few before taking 39k for them.

Damn! that guy had some bad luck but Toyota still got him out!!
I did go through some scary stuff that had my nerves going but the truck never even struggled. I even stopped in the middle of a big mud hole because I wasn't sure which way I should go and I still never sank or lost traction. I pulled out my buddy in his 99 4runner too! in his defense he has street tires, 4x4 with diff lock as well.

This would be true if it were a completely new truck (it's not, not by a huge margin), but Toyota should know better, and I believe they do. They have it made in that there are so many fan-boys (guilty), we buy whatever they make, regardless of whether or not it is what we want. Toyota is capable of making superior trucks, but where is the incentive for them to do so? I know people are sick of hearing about the GM twins, possible Ranger and now the Ridgeline, but I hope these all turn out to be stellar trucks- it's the only way Toyota will up their game.

Well, every new design has flaws to be worked out. That's why you never buy the first model year. I'd have waited 2 years or so. But that's just me

I honestly don't think it matters if it's a new truck, a partially new truck, or just a few new fender bends. Toyota should be putting out a better product then one that has so many "minor" issues, which, by the way, all add up in my book to a major problem. I'll be the first to say that I'm not getting rid of mine. I like it a lot. Toyota needs to fire the QC guy/gal though.

I just hope they don't screw this up like they did the roll-out of the FJ Cruiser in 2006.

    tonneau,
Looks like I made the right move buying the 2015 model. I didn't want to deal with new design issues.

As a guy coming from an 05 Nismo Frontier to a 16 TRDORDC, I still wonder which is better. After over 200,000 miles, the Frontier never let me down, shifted funny, leaked, howled, or had the hood vibrate. It also had a fully boxed frame, more HP, and towing capacity. I beat the hell out of that truck and it always performed (although with only 17 MPG). I love my new Tacoma, but don't for a second think the Nissan is inferior unless you have owned one. Just because it's a much smaller company with less production numbers, don't let that skew your opinion. So yea, I went down that avenue. It would be interesting to hook them both up in low range, but I would be afraid I would break my new Tacoma. It cost too much!!

I traded my 09 tacoma for a 12 jeep wrangler. First year for the pentastar 3.6. I'd check out the wrangler forums and people would complain about the new engine. It got to me and even though I had no trouble whatsoever, I made up my mind that it had to go. I can see it happening again. The power of suggestion is a mighty one. The best mod anyone can do for themselves is delete TW from your Tapatalk, remove it from your favorites, go tickle the wife (or whatever). Enjoy your truck and be grateful!

Actually that guy was introduced to pretty common MTS (Crawl Control problem). Its a sudden surge when vehicle gets bogged down that gets you screwed. its almost like bumping gas pedal in most inconvenient time.

The guy stopped his truck in a mudhole. Made a decision about which direction to go. And had no problem with traction and was able to go. How is that a common crawl control problem?

Hyundai corporate or the tech? May have been trying to cover for a coworkers screw up if it was the same dealership. I had a loose plug wire after a hard run through plaster city in my Ranger and one plug wire that wasn't properly pushed on all the way came loose. Lead to the motor feeling like a diesel from the misfire and cracked the ceramic on the plug.
