DishNetwork or DirectTV?

Hey Gang,

I'm getting a bit frustrated with Comcast...signal strength is lame and they don't have as many HD channels as either of the dish carriers.

What are your thoughts on DishNetwork and DirectTV? I want HD channels, so which one carries the most?

I know...I know...I could have just gone online and checked out their ads, but those are ads and they always seem to be inaccurate. I wanna here y'all thoughts and experiences.

I have noticed that the Dishnetwork system runs a little faster than the Direct TV. The response time from the box to the TV is better. When you change a channel on DTV it takes a second to come up on the tv. but with Dishnetwork I had seen that it takes just a little less time. I had Direct TV and a friend of mine had Dish Network, and I would watch tv at his house and notice a huge difference.

 

Thanks for the input, bauermike! Stuff like that is really helpful, as I would have never known. It seems Dishnetwork hardware is also cheaper.

 

me and my roomie are trying to figure out what we need to get too. it sucks trying to figure out what kind of signal is best for the price

 

I hear ya, nd. I was shopping around and called in on DirectTV once. The hardware rental starts at about $200!!! Hardware through them is a total rip...I'm leaning towards DishNetwork, but I need to find out pricing there, too.

 

I hate Comcast.

That "on demand" system is a complete joke and almost never works. Every damn time something good comes on in HD the damn thing tiles itself into oblivion.

 

That's exactly what's happening to me! I thought maybe I was the only one experiencing that...now I'm really going to switch over to some dish carrier soon.

 

I wanted comcast out here in Tucson for the On Demand. But Comcast doesnt serve in my area. Then two years later, Cox communications, which I presently have, added On Demand to their service, I liked it at first. But it slows down the whole operating system and they never update the shows frequently. You will see the same shows on the On Demand for months.

It IS a joke.

 

I got pissed one night cause I rented "No Contry for Old Men" in HD. And the damn thig glitched every 2 minutes! Same problem out here as well.

I dont know much about which has better signal strength, But the friend I have with DishNetwork, lives in CO Springs, and I noticed a huge difference between Dish Network and DTV

 

It pisses me off to no end the shitty quality of Comcast.

Did I mention my HD service quit on me 2 MINUTES BEFORE KICK OFF during the SUPERBOWL.

I ended up having to watch it in standard def. on a 50" plasma, meaning it looked like shit.

The whole goddamn reason my family bought such a big TV is for HD movies and football. Neither work well with Comcast.

 

we have direct tv right now but i'm not a huge fan. but i really dont feel like doing all the research to find what's best

 

I was pretty lazy about this until last night when I couldn't even get a signal for the HD channel that had "American Gladiators" on it. That is just unacceptable! I did not have my Phoenix fix and I'm pretty pi$$ed!

 

That happened to us too. We ran to the closest Best Buy and got an HD antennae. Took about 5 min to hook up, but why should you have to resolve the problem that way? That happened with Comcast. I havent had an issue with HD with Cox communications. If you ever get Cox in your area, check it out, the only problems I have had with them is the On Demand.

 

Crap, we don't get Cox in my area...LAME!

I visited my friend in Woodland Park in December of 2007 during that snow storm, and his dish never lost a signal. He had Dishnetwork. I am sure each company has something good and bad at the same time.

 

Ya, I lead music on Saturday nights in Woodland Park. This past weekend we had a BBQ at the pastor's house...he had DishNetwork and the signal was pretty amazing. I was impressed, so that got me thinking about it more this week, especially after my "American Gladiators" snafu.

 

I have noticed the DVR with Cox isnt the best. I had one for a while, never had a problem with it, but my dad got us Tivo as a Christmas gift. So I returned the DVR. I think all the cable company's try to screw you every once in a while.

 

Off subject...

I am moving to Woodland Park this Sept. And I cant wait! The old lady and I fell in love with Colorado when we made that trip in December. So I reenlisted in the Army just to go there!

 

Ya, this place rocks! I live in Parker about 1.5 hours away. This next Saturday is the last night I lead music down there, but I'll probably come to visit once in a while. Let me know when you move there...we should hook up and trade Taco stories and mod advice.
