I spoke to the Service Manager and the technician. At this point, it was the fourth time it was in for the same problem.

I think we were talkign about 8:06 moment.
    1. Truck brakes through ice
    2. Detects it gets bogged down and thinks it must be a rock
    3. Truck surges ahead thinking it needs to climb rock in front of it, guy makes silly face since his truck dropped a whole foot down, than accelerated into the abyss.
    4. Truck hits ice in front of it and decided its now properly F-ed, so makes nice groan.

That surge is pretty common with crawl control especially in winter driving. many people complained about Land Cruisers seems to have it, 4runners have it, I bet 2016 Tacoma has it too.
Its lack of Snow mode whats the problem. Snow and sand are not the same thing.
Not a big deal if you know its there, but it will make grown man shit his pants when truck floors it off into a ditch.

it seems to be pretty random depending on when/where the truck was built. Looks like bad QC to me. I'm sure the same truck with same components built in Japan wouldn't have any of those issues at all. My 0.02.

My 2014 Elantra is in the shop right now with 46,000 miles getting a engine replacement. 1 cylinder has been misfiring basically since I bought it last year with 30,000 miles on it. Finally after replacing coils and spark plugs like 5 times they decided to run a compression test. It came back at 30% less compression than the other cylinders. New engine now. So no... Not all Hyundais are great. Nor is ANY brand for that matter. They ALL have bad apples.

Wow, that sucks. Could be worse, at least you don't have a RAM ecodiesel.

I'm just glad it's under warranty. Not exactly sure how it affects the value of the car. Brand new engine... Used car... Hope it helps instead of hurts.

At this point all brands are same crap when comes to quality. Toyota slipped, so is Honda so is Nissan so is Mercedes, so is BMW etc.. etc.

Don't be fooled into paying anybody more for perceived quality. Buy car you like, that has most power, most capability and most efficiency to get job done. Assume its going to be a lemon right of the bat.

GM or Toyota, same shit different problems, all parts are made in China anyway. the only difference is price and power. Spending more for less car is stupid, if you have to repair both.

Long gone are days of buying Toyota driving for 400 000 miles and handing keys to your first born. Now before you hit 400k miles either plastic cages in your wheel bearings are going to collapse or your frame is going to fold or...

Unfortunately Toyota of now relies on Toyota of the past and perceived QDR.

It's been 3 or 4 years since I've had to pull a plug. The likelihood of the missing ceramic being from it melting seems extremely unlikely and more likely that an idiot tech broke it upon inspection.

Ceramic melts at 3k degrees Celsius, if his spark plugs were getting that hot, he would have had a hole in his block.

Well, maybe I f***ed up. I waited 5 years into the Tundra's Gen 2 to get one (2012 TRD). Never had a minute's problem with it until I side swiped a mail box and traded it in on a 2016 SR5 DC V6. So far 1200 miles on the clock and no problems. It has been on the hwy for at least 800 miles at 70-80 mph. Not much more wind noise than the Tundra except if feels a hell of lot lighter. Haven't been in much rain so I haven't experienced the leaks that have been reported. The only minor issue I have so far is the rear driver's side window seal doesn't fit that tight. Took it to the dealer and the service tech said that was normal (typical Toyota BS). But, on the way of the showroom I checked a 4 WD TRD (sticker $39K+) and it had the same issue. I would have liked to wait until at least 2 years into the Gen 3 but didn't have that option as I didn't want the banged up Tundra. Dealer gave me $18K trade-in as the Tundra had $4K+ of damage (mirror, running board, door handles included). He got it fixed and has it on the lot for $29.5K. I only paid $32K out the door in 2012. Bottom line: maybe should have looked for a new 2015. Keeping my fingers crossed however (mfg. date 11/15). Maybe I should have read the "problem" threads before pulling the plug...but I was not aware of Tacomaworld.com at the time.

Sorry for the long post, like my students, no has to read it!:sadviolin:

What? I bought mine back in October and knew of no problems at all. I have no idea where you people get this stuff.

That had to have been some some mail box you hit to cause 4k in damage.

Exactly correct. You could buy a 2015 and still have weird issues. There are people complaining about the driveline vibration from 2005 through the entire 2nd gen run.

As far as waiting to buy a 2017, I saw a graph on another thread, don't remember which one or I'd copy it here, that showed the "reliability" of each year of tacoma since it's inception. The chart showed the first year of a new gen as one of the more reliable.

It all comes down to luck. OP clearly got really unlucky and deserves to me upset. However we are overlooking the fact that these issues happen to all manufacturers. These issues are likely only a few percent of vehicles off the line, but it seems much higher on here because we are vocal about a new truck it being perfect.

Eh don't worry. Most of the problems are minor and only bug people that are REALLY in tune with thier vehicles.

EVERYONE has the howling issue. Even the people that say they don't. The holes are there on all models. But some people can hear it, some can't. Just goes down to your hearing and/or if you pay that close of attention. For the record, it WOULD bug the crap out of me. Lol

I'm sure your truck is fine. If you love it, drive it!

That happened to me once. I stopped dead in the middle of some deep muddy ruts to see if it could get me out. It didn't do anything and I just got myself out without crawl control.

So far I've found crawl control to be more useful in sand or rock. I honestly probably won't use it much because I know how to use my features pretty well but its good for novice people.
