Just replaced mine; works like a champ.

Interesting: After I replaced it the truck didn't start on the first try and that has never happened. Then it fired right up on the second try and runs like a top again.

 

I am having a similar problem with my 95, I have the 3.4l v-6 and it recently started to stutter during acceleration, the check engine light came on soon after. when I tried to diagnose it the reader would not read the code... I would like to clean the MAF but I could not figure out how to clean it... any tips?

 

Take the maf sensor out and spray it down with CRC maf sensor cleaner then reinstall.

 

Anyone know the screw size for the sensor? I lost one and the other one's head is starting to strip.

 

So I am having this problem . I done just about everything you can do . But I think I might have found the problem. And some will not believe it . Check your master cylinder when it start to fail it will not depress at all . You will start to lose speed and it will stutter . I have a new master cylinder on order . I took the front wheels off and had my girlfriend hit the brake and I saw it press the brakes close but it would not release . That why I think the codes pop up .

 

Chiming in on an old thread here. I was limping along and getting the "stutter" on and off, especially when the pedal was more than 50% down. Climbing hills was embarrassing ... almost as bad as having a 4cyl

Replaced MAF, and the problem was immediately resolved. No break-in / recalibration period.

My butt dyno says it's gained a lot of power compared to before, and I expect better MPG too (had been getting 14ish).

 

The element in my MAF cracked so I had to buy a new one and all the parts stores around where I live wanted $165 - $180 for a new Denso MAF. Luckily I found the same exact one on Amazon brand new for $90. I installed it and everything is perfect. Glad I looked elsewhere and shipping was free!

 

This could be what I paid for mine on Amazon I just know it was at least half price for a Denso MAF compared to area auto parts stores. It pays to look around. But I wouldn't buy anything than Denso when it comes to parts for Toyotas.

 

Can anyone explain what a disco battery is? Is this just the main battery for the vehicle or something else?

 

disco batt = disconnect battery

and its better and easier to just pull the EFI fuse in the fuse box under the hood to reset the ECM and it doesn't mess up your clock or radio stations

 

Ok that makes sense. I did it today and check engine light has stayed off.

 

This video shows nothing about disconnecting the batterie.. This is a required step correct?

 

not really. so long as you don't remove the connector to the MAF and it stays grounded through the connector, youll be fine.

 

I just disconnected the batterie. I get all sketched out about the computer catching on fire or something. My MAF was pretty dirty.

 

Why not just remove the EFI fuse for a few minutes and plug it back in?

Keeps you from having to fix your radio and clock after..

 

Because I didn't know where the efi fuse was but didn't have any difficulty finding the batterie

 

It's on the fuse box. Just look for the little rectangle that says EFI. Not the bigger square. That's the relay.

When I cleaned it the other day this is what it looked like. Seemed really dirty to me. I'm waiting to burn through some gass to find out if it helped my mileage.

 

Mine looked about the same. I don't know why I waited so long considering all you gotta do is loosen two screws and pull the plug off. So easy! And the can of MAF cleaner said to clean it every air filter change! I sure wasn't doing that.

Did you spray inside of the holes too? (the plastic part). If you do, make sure not to stick the straw too far up there. There are some delicate looking resistors in there.
