Are you still running 275/70s? Thoughts on tires, 275 vs. 285? I'm planning to go OME with 887 and not sure on wheel / tire combo. TRD wheels vs. Methods and 285 vs 275?

Yup still running 275's and love them. The only reason I went with 275's is because I'll be towing a boat eventually and I didn't want to mess with the towing ability too much otherwise I would have went for a 3" lift and 285's.

Methods and 285's are beast and love how they look. With my 885's I ended up getting a 2" lift and with the 275's I'm happy with my "welterweight" look lol ;)

I saw a '16 Tacoma at HK boat ramp today with a big trailer attached that had a 3" spacer lift and 275/75/16. How does the towing get affected with a 3" lift? Just curious cause I'm looking to get a boat soon and wondering how my truck will tow it over to Kaneohe or Waianae. Thanks.

You should be good bro. I have a few friends that tow with 3" lifts and 285's with no problem. One of them tow's to Lake Tahoe a few times a month and the Sierra's a few times a year. He says it works but is thinking of regearing. The biggest factor is not the lift but the tire size that's going to affect anything and with that being said, MPG is going to be your biggest issue (but i'm sure you've already thrown that out the window lol) and your braking power. I think the Pali is only 1000ft elevation? It really depends on what you're towing and where you're towing to and since you have a 4x4 don't go over your 3" lift cause then you'll have to worry about CV angles...

I wouldn't sweat it. Just drive safe and make sure you get trailer brakes.

PS. screw the fishing meetup, let's do a sandbar meetup lol

If they do I'll buy you beer. If they don't, you're buying me my first tank of gas lol

    Aloha,
New guy here, I just moved from Okinawa Japan, where they had the HILUX and Land Cruisers and I always wanted a Tacoma and now it's my time to make that commitment.
I'll be moving to Oahu end of Febuary. I got an ordered in at Servco for a 2016 White Double Cab long bed TRD Off-road 4x4. I think it's a hell of a deal considering the Used Tacoma on dealers lots and Craigslist for a 2005-2015 were going for $20,000-33,000 or the lower prices trucks had over 100,000 miles on them already. So for 36K I got a new one. I can't wait to pick it up and meet all of you and get info on lifts, tires, wheels and RECON laws.

I've been looking at the ICON Stage 4/5 3" lifts and the SCS wheels but the sales guy advise against a lift due to warranty but I know about the Magnusson warranty act. Look forward to chatting with you.

Sounds like you've got a good plan to start off with. I grew up in Okinawa as a DOD dependent...miss that place so much. Bring back some unique Toyota or TRD stuff!!!

Question to those that surf or fish
Since the smart key fob is needed to open door and start engine, I can't obviously take that thing surfing with me and I heard that having a lock box is a good way to get your truck stolen giving the thieves your smart key. I can have them make me a key at the dealership to get in the truck, is that possible ? How do you secure your truck when Your out surfing with the smart Key?

I just take the key out of the fob and tie it into my pocket when I get out I just wash it off with water and dry it works fine.

So the key is removable? But I thought if the fob was near the car anyone can open your truck and start it.

Key is removable yea, but to unlock the door keyless the fob has to be next to the drivers side door handle so I lock it in the glove box. Yes if someone gets in your truck they can start it but knock on wood no one has gotten in yet. Or you can get one of those combo lock key holders people on their tow hitches but I wouldn't leave the key fob in there all the time.

I have no business in the 3rd gen section since I have a 2014, but nice quiver @UMINCHU_BUNS. caught my eye with that. I'm waiting to order a couple Raynors when I get my ass back in the water.

Yeah brah hit me up when you do, I need some surf buddies! I just ordered those and will also be picking them up, I usually like to support the local guys and stick to one shaper, and he's an awesome shaper and very cool dude!
