Well, past that bolt it all seemed rather simple to complete minus the keeping the timing chain tight. Since Murphy's law likes to prove itself to me, I am almost certain something would have went wrong there. Assuming I could keep that tight, it was smooth sailing till it came to reinstalling everything. I wish I could have completed it but o well. Ill post a few of the pictures, as well as links/info on how to do it. I don't suggest anyone tries this unless they have a few days, a plethora of tools (or funds), and understands the risks...or they are just stubborn like me and don't want to pay someone until they have to.

Maybe I missed it but did you get the cam bolt yet? I remember when I did my timing belt on my 4runner it was a pita. Are you having issues locking the cam to being able to even loosen the bolt or just can't get the bolt to break?

I could even break it loose. I just put the engine back together and am going to let someone with the tools and knowledge take care of it .

Don't get it. If you do a v6 you want 05-08. Maybe as high as '11. Lots of emissions shit past that and that stupid recirculating exhaust shit

Edit: reading is hard..I see that's just another 4 banger...still. Probably a lot more emissions stuff on it than yours.

Should be cheaper to just have mine fixed anyways.

Where is the fun in that?
Based off your #4 cyl pressure and spark plug I'd say you need head work AND piston/ sleeve work. You're probably up to at least $1200 right there for a shop to do that work.

Head work for sure, unless a mechanic will change the valves without removing the head (unlikely). $1200 on a low mileage motor though vs $2200 for a newish motor and tranny I don't need. If I could easily sell the extras I would be all for it but I don't think it is that simple.

I just finished up most of my taxes and am at a $1550 return. I still have to enter my school taxes but that normally gives me another $300 - $500 iirc. Pretty much money already spent at this point. One thing is going to happen ASAP after getting this motor fixed. As much as I hate them, a snorkle and pre-filter will be purchased and installed.

I never cared for a snorkel either but the piece of mind and insurance is worth it, just be prepared for everyone to ask whats that thing on your fender

The nice thing about Wyoming is that the majority of people will know what it is. I get a lot of waves and a few questions but nothing overly dumb.

^^ I have found that the downside to having a snorkel is the excessive amount of "Dumb Questions" .....

The best though , was made by a woman in her 70's
    "Oh , I see you have a Chimney " !! Lol !
I loved that one , I just smiled and said .. Yeah !

Bad news. Talked to the mechanic and showed him the spark plug. He swears it's a piston ring, just to much fouling to be valve seals.

    I have 4 options.

    1. Buy a new engine (he said it's most likely going to be 6k through him)
    2. Clean the truck meticulously, top off the oil, and drive to Cheyenne and hope their dealer does the work.
    3. Buy a new truck
    4. Run heavier oil, use additives, and maybe...just maybe the ring will re-seat it self.

    1 - I wouldn't do.
2 - Worth some effort, but... given the modifications they probably won't touch it.
    3 - See below comments.
4 - Limp mode. Heavier oil and additives will not correct a mechanical failure.

    - How much for a rebuild?
    - What about that engine I sent you previously?
    - Trade in is Iffy but will still could cost you more in the long run.
Even at $3-4,000. It will probably be more cost effective to keep your truck. Get it back to stock for air intake as part of your rebuild.
    IMO
