I am trying to think things through...I really don't want to sell the truck. To much time and memories invested. Dumping 6k into a new engine puts me into debt right before I exit college.

Immediately I am thinking the dealer in cheyenne is my best bet. I have heard they are pretty good about warranties but if that doesnt work then a leak down test would probably be smart just to make sure it is not the valve seals like I originally thought. If it is the rings then I would probably soak them in some solvent in a last attempt to reseat without an engine overhaul. If all fails...then I will probably look for a stock and relatively cheap Land Cruiser. Transfer my wheels/tires to it and park my truck at my parents until I am in a position to swap in something better.

Good thinking, I mean a total cleaning of the engine/intake bay isn't exactly lost efforts. Always worth a shot!

Yeah, it's really simple too so might as well try. Worse case they tell me no and I get some dinner at a place we don't have here.

Unsure on rebuild...it was pretty obvious that is not an option for him. I am going to talk to more shops and decide on the route. As to that engine...that's great but it is in chicago. I'll contact him and see if he cant ship it but I doubt he would.

Just checked, he can ship. Working through craigslist is less than ideal though...any one know members from chicago that might be willing to get eyes on the engine? He is doing a swap

I'm about 75 minutes north of Chicago. I might be able to assist you if no one else volunteers.

I would really appreciate that and would find some way to pay you back. I found a chicago thread on here so many one of them will lend a helping hand.

Two gents in Chicago showed interest in looking at it. What would I do without TW?

@Blackdawg you mentioned emissions on that engine? Why should I care about that? I don't think anything changed with the engine past 2011 (my current engine). Is this just for the possibility of a future SC?

Bummer it's a ring. What I was a afraid of..

I don't know a ton about the 2tr..whatever it is. But I know in '11 more emissions stuff got added on to the v6s. Do some careful research before you buy that motor. It may require certain parts you don't have or a different ecu/wiring setup.

Honestly. Id just rebuild the motor. Be simple enough. Idk why the mechanic won't do it. Just need to pull the block and Pistons. Home the block. New Pistons and rings. Do new bearings while your at it. Reassemble.

Granted not easy and not something you're outfitted to do but a lot cheaper then a new motor.

Least I would hope it would be.

6k could probably get you a wrecked truck like yours that runs and you could have alot of spare parts! Although you risk the engine have unknown problems. Get one that's hit in the rear end.

The 2015 and newer 2TR's are dual VVT-I. All of the others are nearly identical, including the 4runner version.

    Well there ya go.

Wasn't the year for the CL motor 2015? So...could be an issue. Unless it comes with literally everything. Ecu/wiring and such

Ya that's too much hassle and too far anyway. There is a dude with one for $2134 in Buffalo, Wy http://www.qualitypartsfast.com/

About 100 other engines for sale- http://www.car-part.com/

Bookmark it. You can find any part you want, it searches junkyards nationwide.

Thanks again, you are quite the resourceful guy!

I called and talked to them. $2600 before taxes for the engine, 1 year parts and labor warranty, and <$150 in shipping to get it here.

My parents live 15 min from Buffalo so I might be able to have my dad get it and bring it down.

Grew up turning wrenches in my Dad's shop, he's the ultimate junkyard dog. Dude can sniff out parts like a bloodhound. I'll ask him for some obscure thing, and he'll reply "I know a guy that has one of those sitting on a bench" and sure enough, he will.

Shame I'm not home. We could probably swap it at Tim's in a weekend.
