have you heard of a shovel ? start digging yourself out. works every time.

I floated my bad ass 4runner way up into 3 feet of snow , it was going nowhere. so I shoveled and shoveled my ass off and lo and behold the wheels ended up touching the ground after a mad 30 minutes of furious digging and I was on my way

shovel and chainsaw will get you out of any snowy mess guaranteed

so carry a shovel and working gas powered chainsaw. dig your self out, and chainsaw up some traction devices.

Load the back up with weight. Easiest way to do that is pile snow in the back. This also means in snow you should always have a shovel, always. I also recommend a tow strap always in your truck.

Sometimes you need to be pulled from the rear so get a receiver shackle mount and shackle. Don't use a tow strap for anything but a slow gentle pull. It's far more useful and effective to use a properly rated recovery (snatch) strap or a Bubba Rope. They stretch and are the best for dynamic recoveries.

No, no, no, no. There us a huge difference between a tow strap and a recovery strap or kinetic rope. A tow strap or chain won't stretch and is made for towing a broken vehicle to the trail head or shop. Recovery straps ava ropes stretch and are made to effectively "unstuck" a vehicle without breaking things.

I have a 4X4 but would still not be driving in that much snow and ice on unplowed roads.
It's not worth my sanity or my life.

The main thing with chains is to put them away dry - otherwise you'll find something that resembles a tacoma frame next time you use them.:D

I just let them dry out but spraying them with a very light coat of something like CLP isn't a bad idea.

Honestly, a 4x4 truck will pay for itself once you are stuck in the middle of no where. The reality is that there is no reason not to just get a 4 wheel drive. Yes you might pay $3000 up front, but guess what, you get it right back when you sell. You vehicle is also much more in demand when you sell, many like me would never think twice about buying a 2 wheel drive truck.

Hopefully you make it through the rest of the winter without getting stuck, I bet next time you will have a shovel.
