Aside from the weird torque-dip in the mid range, it looks like a pretty decent tq and hp curve. I suspect that has something to do with the automatic transmission - I'd really like to see a dyno of the 6 spd manual.

For those asking, the low end torque is needed for good acceleration while towing (starting from a stop, etc) but you want the high end hp for passing power on the highway.

The single HP and TQ values you get from the sales brochure are over-rated anyway, since those are peak values at discrete RPM's. It doesn't tell the story of how the engine gets to those values, which is why the dyno chart is important. What you should actually care about is how flat the torque curve is and how long it holds its torque, because that correlates directly to how the car accelerates while you're driving it.

OP's pic is a 6 spd manual. The junky one I found was an AT.

Aint worth 4K! But that being said, I had the TRD SC on my 2013 and it sure felt like a shit load more that 30 hp/tq difference. I just got tired of the noise. (Getting old)

Guessing the shifting effects the numbers a little more on the 16 due to the extra gear?

That's not an accurate dyno run. You want to lock it in direct drive gear (4th?) and lock the converter if its an automatic. The surge as it shifts will cause very erratic readings.

I don't know about you guys, but I think that over 210 ft-lbs torque at 2000 rpm is pretty terrific!

Thanks to the post originator for doing this for the community.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
its always better to have more power at lower RPMS. Nobody is High revving in traffic, most people are driving in 2k-4 k RPM range. Looking at dyno 1GR is way ahead of its time. Considerign thats a single VVT-i engine, you can only imagine what Dual VVT-i could do with 6 speed. Thats why probably Toyota gave Dual VVTi with 6 speed to Hilux. They wanted to leave the best for Hilux.
Considering 2gr-fks is dual vvti engine it berely keeps up with older Tacoma engine. Its a difference between Truck engine and new Minivan engine.

Just to be clear for all, the AT dyno is the shitty one I found and posted, not the (nice) MT dyno that OP did.

Toyota's literature says Hp is 278 but this dyno test says 232. Toyota literature says torque is 265 but this dyno test says 234. Just trying to digest all this. Seems bad news to me.

there is power loss between the crankshaft and the tire contact patch.. in this case we are seeing the power that is lost to the rear axle.

its called parasitic loss. they don't measure HP/TQ at the wheels. A 4wd truck with a6 can expect to lose 20% of its power by the time it gets to the wheels

Jeff - what everyone is saying is that drop in numbers is to be expected. It happens to ALL vehicles when put on a dyno. The amount of loss from the crank (engine) to the wheels on the ground varies, but it is 100% normal.
