Purchased my new TRD OR sport auto DC, test drove it with engine light on. I was told it just rolled off the truck(been waiting over 2 months for it) and needed to be reset, normal dealer initial service. I signed the papers and salesman came in and told me I couldn't take it that day(Friday) but it is already fixed (correlation code??) but it needs to be oked by a Toyota rep. Late Saturday came around, so I called them and he didn't show up. He would be there on Monday, even though it a holiday, but once again it got late and I called them, what a surprise, didn't show up. He would definitely be there tomorrow (Tuesday) Here it is getting late on Tuesday and no call. I am paying for this, insurance and all, but I still can't drive it. There is either still a problem or I have a lazy Toyota rep assigned to this area. WTF!!

I have owned many Toyota Tacoma's in the past and they were very reliable. I am really getting agrevated about this situation now!!

Has anyone else had a similar situation?

On day one you should've demanded a loaner vehicle. If a rep is involved it's serious and extensive which = time consuming. As your finding out. Talk to the service manager using your angry voice, it's time to KIck It Up A NOTCH!

It's never happened to me but, I wouldn't be happy with it for sure.

For me (and I bet you too now) I wouldn't sign off on buying a new vehicle with what could be any issue.

But, do you know why they are keeping it? I mean is it related to the check engine lamp?

Toyota doesn't send reps out for stuff like this. Sometimes reps come around and do check in with the dealers and they may look at things. If they are sending a rep out just to look at your truck that means there is a pretty big issue. The reason you couldn't take your truck is whatever the issue they need to order parts. Since you essentially took delivery, and your truck is in for repair (especially since it never left) your entitled to a rental. I would bypass the sales department and talk with the service department directly. The sales department will just keep dicking you around and not tell you the real issue. They down play it because they don't want to lose a sale, or deal with the problem. You also have the option to request a new vehicle since you theoretically never took actual delivery. That's up to the dealership but I would raise hell. Regardless I would kill them on a survey. They get graded from the manufactures and get kick backs for their surveys. No dealership likes a bad survey. I would write in the survey what's been going on and how your dissatisfied. If your leasing I would possibly put a call into Toyota customer service and Toyota Financial Services

    Bingo!

OP, if you traded in a vehicle for the new truck... bought and signed papers, but got no truck...... You'd be in a loaner vehicle (if I were in your shoes).

You're salesman is an idiot or a liar. Pick one.

But while they are at it, if you have an auto, especially with a tow package, make sure they check the trans fluid level. And that they prove it to you, not just say they did. You can do a simple search here for why this is a good idea.

I will second Toyota dealers HATE bad surveys. I gave one a scathing survey [FJ Cruiser purchase] due to the asinine useless salesman and the next day I received a call from the dealer wanting to know if there was a way I could be satisfied and rate the transactions again. Said nope, your salesman sucks, got a ''he has been sick and off work'' to which I replied I don't care, that is YOUR problem and not the customers. I did notice he was no longer there last time I stopped in, good riddance I say.

Personally, I don't want a lemon right off the bat and I consider a ''has to be fixed before you take physical ownership'' a lemon.

Always take them for what you can once they call asking what they can do to make you happy! Trust me we give customers so much free shit it's mind blowing.

And I wouldn't say this truck is necessarily a lemon. I've seen a lot of new cars come in with check engine lights. Could be numerous things. Electronics can go bad at any time for any reason. Dumb delivery driver could of done something, broke a sensor or whatever. Lots of things can go wrong from the plant to the dealership. Even have had people sneak in on the lots at night and swap defective parts. So you really never know.

But it's a shame they are trying to cover up what's going on. However this is typical sales person behavior. Just some are better than others about it.

I'm the guy who would rather tell you straight up what's going on. Whether it's the dealerships fault or not. Just be honest. Shit happens. Most people understand. Some people will lose their minds, but they are gonna lose their mind regardless of the bullshit you try to feed them, so why not just be honest.

I hear you. My truck came with a separated hood. I picked up on a Saturday and Took it back in for repair on the following Tuesday. I get the truck back tomorrow. Two weeks at the dealership for repair which did not work then a new hood.

Hope you caught the thread and that's how you noticed. Honestly I'd be happier with a new Hood vs repair, with the exception that they probably had to paint it. Hopefully they did a good job and it looks just like the factory

It's your call. But you will get faster better results if you become a pain in their ass. It's sad you have to resort to such things, but it's becoming the new normal.
