if they gave you a vin, look at the last 6 numbers. the first 2 are the build week. by the way, if the first number is a 3, its being built in mexico. if its a 5, its being built in the USA. my dealer provided me with a report listing the proposed build date and im told travel time is 2-6 weeks depending on weather and distance. mine may be on the long side since its being transferred from another dealer. good luck man

I believe the plant is closer to Chihuahua, about 250 miles south of El Paso, TX. Of course this means my truck will pass within a few miles of our house on its way to Colorado.

I do not have a Vin yet. They just told me the factory approved the build. But they told me it still may be 3 months out. Thanks for the Vin info.

After months of waiting for prices to come down (which they haven't) I ordered my truck today. Finally found a dealer in San Diego that would honor Costco pricing. I ordered a 4x4 double cab sport, prem/tech/jbl with tow package in silver. Going to order the grey TRD/bead lock style wheels and put 265/75/16 BFG's on it..no lift.

I was told they will know in a week or so if Totota accepted the build, and it would be about 8-12 weeks to get it. I'll post with the timeline down the road...

Excited about this now that it's officially ordered...this will be my 4th Toyota truck.

So you are a week or two ahead of me then...where are you located? I'm curious to compare how long it takes.

Trying to wait until I get confirmation and dates to buy all the goodies for it... :)

Hi all. Brand new member. I thought I'd chime in and share my pursuit of this mythical Tacoma. This is the first time I've bought a new car, and my first Tacoma (only ever driven 4Runners). I was so excited about this, and really did think the process would be loads of fun. But so far my experience has ranged from disappointing to maddening. I ordered an OffRoad double cab long bed, 4x4, on December 9, 2015, and haven't heard anything since. No build date, no information, nothing. It took me several weeks just to make the order, because I bounced around to four different dealerships in my region, TRYING to find someone remotely interested in making a sale. Most sales people were indifferent, and some were just astonishingly rude (my first outing resulted in a sales person telling me to find a brochure - wouldn't even show me the trucks forty feet away - and left me there) I eventually selected a dealership that seemed to offer the only friendly, knowledgable, professional sales person available. Sooo.... waiting, waiting, waiting, and I have the sinking feeling I've lost a full six weeks with zero to show for it - no closer to owning a truck than I was in early December.

My question for any member who cares to respond is: When is it time to jump ship, start over at a new dealer? Perhaps I unknowingly selected a dealership that is just inept at ordering new Tacomas. It's terribly discouraging to start over, and lose a huge chunk of time, but a full six weeks in, with no order confirmation, no build date???? Hang in there, or start over somewhere else?...

On a more positive note, love reading this thread and seeing pics of readers receiving their new trucks.

Dealer said the Pipeline Tracking showed my black SR5 DCSB it should be built on Jan 25th. I'm waiting to call him until the 28 or 29 to see what the pipeline tracking shows. For those that don't have a vin yet and have been told the order was excepted call you dealer ask him to run the pipeline tracking. It will give a build date and also have your temporary vin.

Let us know, I was going to wait 3 to 4 day after build date, but if it shows shipping after one day then I might call dealer the day after build.

I ordered mine back in Sept and got it the day before Xmas eve. I had the same concern you are having. I began to wonder if they even really ordered the truck and how long was it really going to take. Find out who the sales manager is and give them a call. Ask them for all the information they have. Ask if they have a temporary VIN for you and if not when do they think one will be assigned.

Thank you for the response - and encouragement - Leisure Ninja. Can you tell me how long you waited just get your confirmation / build date? Seems like most people get that within a few weeks of ordering, even if the build date is months away. I'd like to think I could relax a little once I have that... (I was told I would be driving the truck off the lot within 6-8 weeks of my order, hence the concern)

Finally received my VIN. Ordered Nov. 6th with a delivery date of Jan 1. Well, that day came and went. I didn't receive any info from my dealer except that it is in route. I finally had to press the sales manager and found out it hadn't even been built yet after 9 weeks. Built last week, with a Feb. 4 delivery... Hopefully.
