I updated some information here for you guys, if interested: @bjs045 @ODNAREM

    I left you @madsand a PM "Conversation".

CB, you basically just: (NO license required)
    1) buy the radio
    2) install
    3) and use the radio.

    HAM: (license required)
    1) buy the radio (i.e. can buy ahead of time, but don't recommend using it without a license... they're very strict about that btw)
    2) take the class and/or take the test (NO Morse Code is required)
    3) receive license
    4) and then use the radio.

to have a radio in your truck helps out tremendously... without "yelling"... LOL!!!

I am, by no means, an expert on the subject and always have room to learn new things, but do have some experience on the subject whether work or personal related. Anyways, hope this helps and talk more about it sometime.

To answer the question about classes offered, just search for HAM classes that are within your area. MOST classes are offered for free and the TEST is $15 or $35??? I don't remember what I paid for the TEST??? LOL!!! I just went to class, studied my butt off at home using examples in class to remember certain questions, and then eventually the TEST. Make SURE to find out what book the class is going to use (i.e. ARRL, Gordon West, etc) because the question pool will be the same, but the books may have them on different pages, which will make it difficult to follow in class if you have "the other book"!!! You also meet some really cool people too. Also, the on-line TESTS will help you study, but make sure it is current for the "years question pool". DO NOT study "OLD question pools" because it WILL screw you up. You just have to trust me on that one and can't say it enough!!! The money wasn't an issue for me because the license lasts for 10yrs, but technically, lifetime, just as long as you renew your license and even then it will last another 10yrs for low amount of money!!! So to me, it was well worth it. AND, you don't have to retake the TEST, again, just as long as you renew your license accordingly/on-time!!! Last, but not least, KEEP your book, even if it eventually becomes "outdated" for the question pool because it will STILL come in handy later on somewhere within the book. I'm an OLD SKOOL type of individual and I love the new technology (i.e. internet, etc), but some things just should be kept around!!! What if the "grid goes down"???!!! That's just me though and to each his/her own!!!

Ham Radio Outlet in Anaheim is a really cool place to go for HAM gear/equipment/books. Go to their web site also. Finally, the people there are really helpful and cool people to talk to!!!

Check out Field Day, which is always held the last weekend of June each year. It lasts 24hrs. Usually HB RACES sets up next to the beach where the dogs are allowed (i.e. about 0.5mi north of the pier... just look for antennas... LOL).

Anyways, I hope this somewhat helps.

    Happy Wheel'n

Haven't posted On this thread before. but I would be interested in going this week. There's a place I know as Nicholas rd exit. off the 15fwy two exits past corona lake. It's pretty close and there's lots of different terrain. Johnson valley is also cool.

I love Moab...I keep seeing posts about THE (OCM) upcoming Moab trip. When? I have done a Moab trip every year for the past 5 years and I haven't made plans yet and you don't want to go in the summer.

King of the Hammers is the premier rock crawling competion in the world. I am not kidding, the world, I have meet Austrailians who preivously competed in expedition competions and now travel all the way to Johnson Valley, California attempting to be the "King". The vehicles are amazing but very specially built for KOH. The course as mentioned earlier is a majority of rock crawling with a bit of dirt track style high speed wheeling. The rock crawling sections are intense with lots of large, sharp and jagged rocks that require high ground clearance, lockers (2) and armor. Breakage and rock rash are normal. I love the place. The event is very busy...
