So as many of you know, I ordered my Tacoma. I put a deposit down to hold the vehicle and was told the vehicle would arrive around New Years. It was delayed to last week. I understood since it's a high demand model. Well, last week rolls around and nothing from the dealership. I call each day to see if the order has arrived and they just beat around the bush not giving me a straight answer. Today I finally find out the day it arrived, the truck I ordered and put money down for was sold to someone else after I had waited for 2, almost 3 months.

I was in disbelief when I heard the news and was basically told "shit happens". They said they promise it won't happen again if I ordered with them which was basically a slap in the face after all this. So, has anyone filed this kind of a complaint with Toyota? I'm sure they'd want to know if a dealership is pulling stunts like this. Who did you talk to and what all came of it?

Update 1-20-16: Went to talk to the manager to see what could be done to fix what happened. Manager said I should have been willing to pay 4k over MSRP like the guy who bought the truck I ordered. I'll be giving Toyota Corporate a call to complain and the dealership is Carson Toyota in Carson California for those interested.

Update 2: Called corporate to file my complaint. Told all that happened and the case is being sent to a customer service and relations manager. We'll see how it goes from here.

Update 3: Carson Toyota called me trying to get me to remove the Yelp review but when I refused they resorted to insults and lies on their response. I refuse to take it down now for any reason. On a good note, I got confirmation my trucks being built the 15th of February and from there I should have it shortly after.

Wow ... oh ... Wow ... that is just terrible.

I am sorry I don't have a number for corporate Toyota, but I have a similar story, but not as terrible.

My wife and I test drove a 2016 Taco, we went inside and were working on the financing when we literally saw our Taco drive by and leave the dealership. The saleslady comes back and says sorry someone already bought that truck. I said no problem can I see another one .... she says we have none ... BUT ... we can get one from a different dealership ... after the weekend. I said well okay, we will come in Monday, plz call if any problems as we are 70 miles out of town.

We show up Monday, and they had sold the truck. I was upset, we said call, we drove in for nothing. They said we have another EXACT one at a DIFFERENT dealership we can have in 2 days .... argh.

We go back in 2 days, and it was still on the semi truck ... they actually waited this time for us to get there before unloading. The rest is history as we bought it.

I got lucky and this dealer was apologetic and really went out of their way to make us happy.

I can't imagine waiting MONTHS, and having it given away to someone else.

    :annoyed:

Tell em to pound sand, get your money back and go to a dealer that will treat you right.
Do you have a Sams Club or Costco club account? Credit union?
Better deals are to be had going this route..

Nice, I'm glad you managed to get a truck out of it. I could imagine it was extremely frustrating to deal with that and having to drive so far.
I'm not a Costco member but my girlfriend is, I'll see if I can use her membership for it. There's no way in hell I'd give this dealership my money after this has happened.

This isn't a Toyota problem, it's an individual dealership problem. I would assume Toyota doesn't care as long as someone is buying their trucks. But I'm a cynic sometimes.

Honestly, Toyota has handled the release of the 2016 MISERABLY. They act like they have never done this before. I would not be shocked to see this model fall in popularity to the Colorado because of just the logistics behind the release of this truck.

Go find a better dealer. Buy from them.

I agree with Connor, it is a dealership issue.
    Remember, you hold the power:
    - They aren't the only show.
    - It's your money.

Don't let them think that they control you (which is what's happening).

I know I hold the power, however if I can make their shitty behavior a head ache for them, I would like to. They wasted months of my time and I think Toyota would at least be interested in knowing what's going on. I'm looking into if they're recommended by AAA, Union Plus, or any other large organizations that steer their members that way to file complaints as well. On top of that I'm leaving a review with Yelp and the BBB.

You have an actual sales contract? Did they ever give you a VIN number during the build process? If not, your wasting your time and just move on.

Sounds like a shady dealership to me, that I would not be returning to after I had received a refund for my money. If you are able to get an email or number for corporate Toyota I would get in touch with them. Personally I would tell them your story and that you have been a loyal Toyota customer for years, but after this stunt you will now be purchasing a GMC or Chevy mid-size truck. Perhaps they may try to persuade you to stay loyal to their brand name, or perhaps not. You don't have to purchase the GMC or Chevy obviously, but I am sure Toyota would be somewhat concerned that the dealerships unethical actions could cost them a sale and possibly future sales... Just my 2 cents.

Protest at the dealership. about 10 years ago my wifes dodge truck had transmission issues, and they had no answers, or solutions, we just wanted it fixed. so I parked the truck out front on the street with a yellow sign saying I bought this lemon here with my phone number. my phone rang off the hook, from potential customers, general managers, and even district managers. in the end the district manager had a tech from dodge look at it and found the issue, and that's all that I wanted. so protest, and you will get treated like royalty.

Google Toyota corporate and it will give you a number. They will probably contact the dealership and talk to them. I was about 200 miles from the 36000 mile warranty running out and needed a dealership to warranty a body part that fell off going down the highway. And they gave me a run around so I called and when I went back I was treated like gold. Corporate will normally let them know that the Bullshit don't fl .
