Sorry, maybe this will be clearer. You can see that a very small proportion are getting 12-16mpgs. Exactly 11.6 % of the vehicles based on the count available at the site are getting 12-16 mpgs. That means almost 90% are getting 17-24 mpg on average.

Didn't buy my Tacoma for fuel mileage. When I want mileage I drive my Camry. :D

Ah, gotcha. I see your point. I'm curious to see how this chart ages.

I logically appreciate your point. From my cynical perspective I also see it as a site that caters to mpg-conscious people with only 100 different customer vehicles to average out. I've formed my opinion mainly noticing the trends of the forum which, to me, is a more diverse sampling of owners & cars.

I understand, but trends on a forum have zero statistical value. You shouldn't base anything off of them other than mental notes. You can make an argument that it (fuelly) might be slightly skewed by fuel conscious people, but it is still real world tank to tank mpgs. All you could say is that they might be more conservative drivers.

Agreed. And my opinion is definitely based on 4 months of mental notes, not hard statistics. I'm genuinely curious how that fuelly chart will age.

FWIW I get 19.8 doing a 50% city 50% hwy 12 mile commute every day. ~21 on the hwy trip to SC I took recently.

Pino - Just curious I missed what model of Toyota you own and drive. What mods do you have and what year? How is you mileage on your rig?

I'm actually on month #3 of waiting on my build. It just left the factory this week though! It's an SR 4x4 5spd 2.7l and i'll be doing a massive thread on it as soon as she lands.

Does anybody know if the computed fuel milage on our screen in the truck is calculated based on a GPS signal for distance or on the odometer reading and reverse calculating the distance travelled?

Are you asking about the instantaneous or trip average?

I was thinking trip average but now I would say both. Are they different calculations I wonder?

I wish people would do a better job clarifying whether their truck is 2wd or 4x4, as it makes a substantial difference. The mpg comments have little to no value without that bit of information....more so irrelevant information...maybe it deserves a pat on the back? lol. Come one people...you know better than that. Some of you do a good job posting the pertinent info along with your data.....the issue is ongoing in other threads as well.

For instance....people posting how much they bought their truck for with 0 additional details regarding model and options..etc.... What value does that add to the forum? NONE...

Anyways, I will add my 2 cents to the mpg numbers on the 2016. I own a TRD OR 4x4 doublecab with premium /tech no jbl....no upgrades yet.
If I consciously feather the gas (keep rpms around or below 3k)...as in slowly accelerate....and keep my speed in check. I can manage around 19-21...mainly highway. The only city driving is done within 2 to 3 miles of my house or work. Typically I average around 15-16 mpg, as I am often in traffic and tend to do a lot of passing when I get the chance....cant stand slow drivers....especially the ones that are brake happy. I'm the type of driver with the "get the fu**k out of my way" mentality, so it's my fault for my poor mpg numbers.

If you, in anyway, hit the meat of the power band on a semi regular basis....you will be lucky to get anything over 16 mpg.

This description pretty much matches my truck and my experience with MPGs

Well, 25 is achievable on flat freeway at 60-65 mph...this is from Olympia to downtown Seattle...now I am running Cooper A/T 3 in 265/70 16 (stock size) at 31 psi cold...DCORSBAT (4x4 V6)...when I had the BFG KO2 265/85 E rated I achieved 23 on the same section but with the BFG bigger tires my around town was down to 17+ now it is 19+...Cheers
