Idk. The lights come on just fine but no cranking or anything when turning the ignition.

You're not going straight to the battery terminals on the jeep are you?

I've owned several Jeeps and I liked them a lot. Don't get too excited about trying to give one a jump, haha.

There ya go. You have to ground to the engine or frame.

    Is this real life?

So I worked at a shop all through HS and college - have jumped hundreds of cars easily, many of them being Jeeps.

I have never, ever used this method, and it has always worked out fine.

Where did you even get this?

You don't "have to". You should for safety reasons, but it certainly is not required. Electrically speaking the negative terminal is connected to the chassis / frame and is common ground.

    That is the recommended method.

    1. Red to dead vehicle positive.
    2. Red to booster car positive.
    3. Black to booster car negative.
    4. Black to dead vehicle frame, chassis, engine block.

The negative battery terminal, the frame, chassis, engine block are all connected as a common ground point and are electrically the same point.

The frame chassis engine block are considered safer than the negative terminal as if it sparks when completing the jump circuit (as it does usually) the spark will be away from the hydrogen venting from the battery.

A battery going "BOOM" in you face CAN mess up your entire day!

LoL I have done hundreds apparently the 'incorrect way', and no boom has ever occurred.

It isn't as common now with sealed batteries as it was when they had the removable vented caps for adding water. I've only seen it happen once, but it was scary.
