Sorry, not much positive about that truck, maybe interior is fairly OK as long as does not have color accents, seats are comfortable but not sure if that its because new or they used something else, .. like the tow plug in the rear bumper (will find one on junkyard to swap it) but the rest is ble.
Front grill absolutely kills the look.
Engine is absolute deal breaker.. like driving a smart or Toyota echo or some other under power car. You press gas pedal and need Mayan calendar to calculate time..
horrible crap but I blame US Toyota for that choice. Not sure how you guys settle for that slow thing... No really how do you drive that and not go nuts?

saw online, a single cab 5.7 tundra is about 32k.... not a bad price for a potential race truck if you want a v8 power hoss

I love the truck! But you know what they say about opinions.
Everyone nit picks to such an extreme degree. Sure, I was hoping for about 320hp with equal torque but it didn't happen. There are super chargers coming so that's fine with me.
The only other thing I really don't like is not having a remote gas unlock. That's a small issue but it would be nice if it came from the factory locked instead of me having to go buy a locking gas cap.
Toyota is great and there's no mid size truck out there better than a Tacoma... FOR ME.
I'll buy what I like and couldn't possibly care any less what some people say online. The local dealership in my area sold 89 in a little over a month including 11 in 1 day. My guess? People like the truck?
If you don't like it, don't buy it. Why do we even have these conversations? If your mom or dad or someone in your family didn't design or build the truck, there shouldn't be such an angry passionate dialogue going back and forth here.

Check crazy at the door people.

Well, to each its own but in my personal opinion the truck is great. I've had an FJ 2007, 4runner 2013 and this truck . I also have in Venezuela a 2009 hilux and this truck is actually quicker from get go than the Hilux. Yes, everyone was wishing for 300 hp and 300 tq but that is not reality. I don't know what the constant complaining is about this truck's engine, heck the 1st Gen had a 3.4 liter and the hp/tq was nothing to write about, my brother had one and that truck was slow as hell. Anyway people do buy these trucks not because of their powerful engines but because it is a reliable machine and has the whole package . My 0.02 cents.

Exactly. I test drove the GM twins before buying. I actually liked the look and the thought of a diesel was awesome. But in the end, Toyota has the history of building complete vehicles that last 200k+ without major repairs. Plus the track record of the highest resale value is a nice commodity.

Oh and talked to the owner here and he said if someone wanted to come by with a 2nd gen for a couple dyno pulls it would only be $90.00 Preferably a manual trans so it will make a good comparison to my truck. We could put an auto 2016 on here also for the same deal if anyone local is up for it. Just let me know!

Maybe put this out in it's own thread? Maybe in your regional forum also?

Tell your shop owner "thanks" from one random non-troll on the internet :)

Autos will be problematic to get good pulls on, cannot lock the converter or lock it into a gear. Pull will look like a mountain range.

True, but you've got 50 people in this thread clamoring for a dyno comparison between ECT and normal with the auto trans. At $90 it might be worth it to one of them. Like you, I don't see it working out so well, but it'd put the issue to rest at least. Or not.

Where have you read saying that the super chargers were coming back? I don't know if you realized, but the TRD supercharger program has been discontinued for all vehicles, including the tacoma since June of 2015.

Just be sure to set your expectations around useful results very very low. :D

Modern trans where you can't access the trans control module, like Tacomas, 2nd and 3rd gens, will not provide useful data. My prediction anyway, unless one of you finally breaks into Toyota's ECUs.

My expectations are that results with an auto will be as useful as a handful of birdshit, but I'm quite certain someone wants it bad enough.

Now that it has quieted down a bit in hear I have a question. I will preface my question with the fact that I did not buy a Tacoma to be a firebreathing dragon of a motor. I buy Tacomas for commuting and overland travel off roading. For both these tasks I don't want a full size.

The dyno run posted above in post 308 looks good to me. It has torque above 200 from 2000 rpm all the way to 5300 (fairly flat). More importantly it has 225 Tq starting at 2800 rpm. That is hardly a high reving motor. I guess I am not smart enough to see what all the naysayers are seeing. These seem like decent numbers if you were a Tacoma owner wanting a 1/4 ton truck for mid sized truck tasks. I get it if the naysayers are just angry that the Tacoma did not come with some 5+ liter power house, but that is what the Tundra is for. Why would Toyota overrun its full sized with the same motor output in it's midsize. That makes no sense.

Trust me I love big torque numbers, I own a Duramax for Torque tasks, but was anyone really expecting huge numbers in a Tacoma? I sure was not and my Manual Tranny 2016 feels more than powerful for the types of tasks a midsized truck is designed for. Hell, I have put 300,000 + miles on my three 4 cylinder Toyota trucks and never once did I say "I need torque of 300+ to make this truck usable".

    What am I missing?
