Anyone know what the major issues with the 09's were?

I was ready to give mine up for a howling noise between 35-50 MPH....Since that has been solved , I am a keeper (at least until the new Ridgeline is released) I want to drive the Ridgeline and see for myself if one can have an SUV ride with a pickup bed. I don't like how Toyota is responding to issues people are having.

No regrets though because I paid $2000 + under MSRP for mine. So if I want to dump it for the Ridgeline I will be ahead $2000.

I'm pretty sure if I bought a new gen3 I would not regret it.

    However, after owning a 2010, a 2012, and current 2015 Tacoma...

I struggle with the new Tacoma head to head with full size pickups. When cost and equiptment are considered.

Dog friendly, with dog snot on inside windows, with of course a/c! Mag 16 inch wheels from a Mazda.
Is their a list of improvements between 15 and 16 other than sheet metal and 2 inches wider? This is like a new and improved box of soap, but it contains 4 ounces less of it!

2009 is the year Toyota went through recall hell. Many trucks went to the dealer that normally would not have IMO. I could be wrong.

Manufactures can only test so much. The levels of ingenious stupidity out there is baffling.

On a side note... whats with that strange engine sound on 16's? They figure it out?

I have no regrets. It is better than my last two Tundra's and the wife's Sequoia mainly because of the electronics (premium tech package and sunroof). Also I now own a vehicle with ass heaters!

Without a doubt, I wouldn't want any other car/truck in this price range. No doubts.

Yes, I regret that I had to sell one of my Harleys to get this POS. The wife makes me drive my brand new Tacoma all the time even when she's asleep and doesn't know I left. She makes me smile the whole time I'm driving the truck to make everyone else think I like my new truck! The wife says it is the first year for this truck and I cant use her car if it breaks down...take the bus or walk!
Life is too short to worry about the century old BS. It's a friggin Toyota!

Here we go, I'll fall victim to this trolling.

Personally, I would consider the changes to be somewhat significant... Google 2016 Tacoma Technical Brochure PDF or click here. Not sure why this topic gets brought up so much, really.

    Major items:

    -New Engine
    -New Transmission
    -improved Aero
    -improved NVH (huge)
-reinforced cabin structure (huge), hot stamped steel technology (TMC first)
    -Dual Zone Climate Control
-Beefier wheel hubs, lower A arms

    Somewhat silly, yet commendable stuff:

-Cabin atmosphere change is massive (improvement)
-Moonroof availability (that's huge to me)
    -Styling change is massive (improvement)
    -Smart key Fob, Pushbutton Ignition
-Multi Terrain Select, Crawl Control (meh)

You talking about the self cleaning cycle? Lots of engine noise/valve rattle sounds when it enters the self cleaning cycle. Sweers actually discusses that.

Not sure. It was a helatious sound coming from the right side of the block. Toyota was swapping short blocks and motors

That's the first I've heard of a sound so hellacious and mysterious that Toyota did a swap. Probably not the self cleaning cycle in that case.

I mean.. honestly tho... what's got you so smitten with the new Ridgeline? It seems to be all you're on about these days (I'm exaggerating). Is it the looks? To me it just looks like an Odyssey with a truck bed.

I'm pretty confident if what you want is an SUV ride with a pickup bed, the new Ridgeline's gonna meet your need. At least the last gen Ridgeline felt that way to me. I actually liked the appearance of the last generation Ridgeline (but only in black), the comfort of the cab, the in-bed storage that could be used as a cooler, and the stuff an in-law put his through really impressed me, to boot.

And what's all this about the new in-bed "exciters" that are supposed to turn that bed into a giant tailgating speaker?

Don't get me wrong, it looks like the numbers on it are gonna be good, and the practicality and creature comforts are awesome, but it's got a face only a mother could love.

I've gone back and forth on it. Still thinking at the end of the year I may trade it in for full size. Unless you do trails, the current price points of a somewhat decently equipped Tacoma will get you a fullsize truck with more power and similar efficiency on the highway.

Looking at a 4.7L Tundra/F150/RAM 1500 towards the end of the year I think.

Yeah I looked at the new Tundra with the 4.6. In the end I decided on the Taco because "Whoopeee New Tacoma!!" and with the options I needed I couldn't get my price low enough. Aww who am I kidding, the new Tundra wouldn't have even fit in my garage.

I recently bought this 2015 and I was thinking the same thing buy 2015 or 2016... The money I saved was the deciding feature. I found the one I wanted and happy with the truck. Actually there was a 2013 in the lot same mileage, but they wanted almost the same price. I really like this color. Beside it was certified car and you get a great truck no matter what you decide.
