Silly Question re: Grounding Wire

Okay.... I've never done anything with my 2005 Tacoma stereo before, but somehow got the idea to try and switch out my factory stereo with a Pioneer avh-p4100dvd.

So, I think I've got all the wires connected correctly, except that I'm supposed to connect the 2 black ground wires to a ground (as well as the ground from my parking brake bypass) and I can't seem to see any obvious place to connect them.

The only metal I see is a metal tube running in the back of the hole where the HU goes.... But there's no metal screw on metal.

Can anyone tell me where I should connect them?

 

Just splice the ground wire that was already in your car with the ground wire coming out the back of the HU.

 

It will be much easier if you use a wiring harness that is made for our trucks. This allows you to connect all of the stereo wires to the harness then just plug the harness into the factory radio harness. Thus, no splicing or guessing.

 

I'm so in over my head....

Best I can tell I'm dealing with 3 different ground wires:

1. The 1 on the toyota wiring harness
2. The 1 on coming off of the receiver
3. The 1 that is part of the bypass.

Okay! Good.... I've got that much going for me. I'm using the wiring harness.

So.... If I connect the black wires together from the wiring harness and receiver, what do I do about the wire that is coming from the bypass that is supposed to connect to the ground?

The ground for the parking brake is to tell the HU that you are stopped so it will allow you to play video. I would just ground it along with the regular ground from the HU, at the factory harness. Just double check to make sure it is looking for a ground and not positive voltage. I'm not sure if this will actually bypass and allow you to watch video while driving though. Questions are not a problem bro. The ground on the wiring harness is connected to ground/common/chassis. Connect all of the wires together...problem solved!

 

you cannot ground the parking brake bypass of that pioneer to work properly. the signal needs to be switched ground. you can do it with a relay and some extra wire

 

i just installed my Pioneer last week. i didnt bother w/ the parking brake wire nor did i connect my ground wires and my HU worked. go figure.

nope. i couldnt find a place to attach my ground wire so i just taped it off and it worked.
