No myth, fact. It has clear mixed into the paint but does not have a clear coat over the paint. The only paints with clear coat Over the paint are the pearls and metallics.

Yea because you can really see me in real life on how I react on a pointless conversation fight. You got your facts wrong on your last comment. You should learn to stay out of people's business before you walk into something you will regret, that's your lesson for today.

Hey- since I have your attention- shameless plug. for all you guys that are into detailing, don't forget about the dedicated detailing forum on TW. I like it over there and would welcome any others to join the ranks. We could use a few more regulars over there. So, c'mon! Share what you know and ask what you want to know. Passionate detailers are some of the most helpful guys out there.

Detailing products have come a long way and I bet a lot of people would be blown away by some of the new exterior protective products.

Get too demanding with the car wash owner, and he could say screw you.

Then, without valid proof, you would be hard-pressed to get any resolution.

I think the OP handled it well, and the car wash owner was at least a little honest.

Not perfect, but a good resolution.

I'm sorry but I don't want my truck more screwed up than it already is. I'd want tge job done right or not at all. I'm not going to let some car wash guy wet sand my paint.
If the car wash guy says screw me well then I'll trash him on the internet or get my lawyer to call him. But the desired end result is my truck fixed to perfection. If the car wash manager/owner is going to be an asshole well thats his problem.

Expecting the truck fixed 100% by a reputable body shop is not overly demanding. Not on the least.

My MGM is bad enough for me currently. Having young kids takes up my time. I do wish I had the time to really get my truck clean.

Completely understand. I'm an empty nester now so taking time to maintain my vehicle is not a big issue for me.

I missed his resolution before I posted, but sill a good fyi of why not to use those drive-thru washes.
    ****Edited****

I worked in one of those places back in high school and stuff like that was a daily occurrence. When I worked opening shift I would walk through the tunnel with the gun, rinsing those cloth strips off, I remember one morning finding a nail stuck in one. People would always come up screaming about something that was scratched or damaged from the machine, we would offer to buff it out with compound, if looked like it would help, but never claimed responsibility. I never saw anyone successfully recoup damages and to be fair if they started giving out free paint jobs for that kinda stuff, it would be way to easy to scam.

Obviously a little late, but if your gonna be particular about scratches, you should only wash by hand with those soft mitts. Plus with black, you might as well put you keys between your fingers like Wolverine and get it over with.

Yeah, owning a black vehicle is tough. That's honestly one of the bigger reasons why I went with white this time around. Microscratches are a pet peeve of mine. Also, regarding washing the vehicle, I need to do more research. I think I saw a ritual that @CAM37 posted a while back but I cant find it. What I tend to do is go to the DIY carwashes and use only the high pressure sprayer and bring my own supplies. Meguires is awesome stuff.

    Here's my wash routine, JJJ:

Two five gallon buckets, both with grit guards on bottom. One is for soap/washing, other is just water for rinsing your wash mitt each time you wash a panel. Make sure you use a boar hair's brush or microfiber mitt to wash.

Do the wheels first, they take a long time and you don't want the water on the paint leaving spots so yeah, do the wheels first with a good wheel cleaner and a wheel brush. Never use the same brush on your paint as you do your wheels.

Wash from top to bottom, rinsing each panel as you go and each time you rinse a panel, hit the others that you've already rinsed. That way, no beading water sits there long enough to leave a water spot.

When you've washed the whole vehicle, sheet water over each panel. Sheet the water by removing the nozzle and placing the end of the hose very close to the vehicle. Sheeting water falls off the vehicle and doesn't leave a lot of water beads behind where as spraying leaves tons of water beads (especially if you have a good coat of wax).

Dry the vehicle with a chamois or a microfiber waffle weave towel. Use a leaf blower in the nooks and crannies and hard to dry places.

I also open my doors and dry off all the door jambs. You won't believe how much difference that makes in the appearance of your vehicle over the course of years.

Forget having them work on your truck, have them pay you the repair cost and take it to someone you trust.
You'll be more pist off at yourself if they do a crappy job.

At this ping you have a better chance taking this matter to Judge Judy

Great routine, getting the door jambs every wash definitely pays off in long run. I drive on the beach a lot and don't really even think about scratches anymore, my big thing is trying to get the undercarriage. Saw a post from a guy awhile back that said he would throw a oscillating lawn sprinkler under the truck.
