Back on topic, I bought a NIB URD MAF calibrator. Still not sure if I bought something that is worth the time, install, or effort.

 

Tuned in properly, you can get a nice little bump in power, and a more proper air fuel mixture when under higher engine loads.

 

I have one sitting in the garage as well, but didn't really think it through when I bought it, I just dont feel comfortable enough to solder on to my ECU wiring just yet. I'll get around to selling it someday when I'm bored, but still holding out for a UCON. Worst case is URD takes another 4 years on it, I'll pay that dude to solder me up a new ECU to fit the old UCON.

 

That's my primary hesitation: splicing into the ECU harness.

Yup, I opened the box to look at the UCON and immediately lost my nerve on trying to install. My next thought was finding a UniChip dealer and paying for all of that, but then URD announced finally working on the UCON, so I'll have to preorder one soon

One of the guys on that URD SC thread that took a pre-09 ECU and spliced it in to a 09+ harness said he'd be willing to do it for something like $750-$1000 IIRC.

Its 'been in the works' for years but Id be willing to bet it was on a far back burner for the last 6 years or so until recently. Business must have started slipping or something.

Agreed. No idea why they waited so long. Looks like theyve got the 09-11 done and just about ready for release, hoping the 12-15 comes out this year. Maybe end of the year so I can get my regear in and start saving for UCON and the rest of the toys.

 

With the 05 - 08 models, the plugs were readily available for purchase. That is why it was easy to make plug n play adapters.

On the 09+, Toyota changed the connectors. They were at one point available to purchase, but then were taken off of the market, to only be sold with the electronics. As a way to keep people from messing with the ecu's in a plug n play manner.

Some of the plugs are the same as that of the earlier models. The others are the ones which are the problem. Getting the ability to have and or make, with tooling, has been the long setback. For a small company like URD.

I am not sure how they have gone about getting them finally.

However, if there was a company which had the ability to 3D scan and 3D print ABS plastic, and I were the buyer, that would have been my route. Conjecture.

 

Great idea Torspd on 3D printing the connectors. I think I can help withe the development and protos. I will reply to gadgets thread at XRU for 09+UCON
