Hey guys. I drive a 2015 SR5 2wd 4cyl. It's my everyday driver and hardly no off-road just some farm work on uneven and grassy dirt roads. I'm trying to figure out what mode to keep my VSC in while everyday driving. Right now I drive it with it off (I assume, no lights or icons in the dash) I know there is a ton of info in the forum but it's all related to off roading.

What do you keep yours in while driving on road or highway??

NO lights means everything is on and working, the light signifies something is turned OFF. I don't usually even think about it.

when you shut it off and start it back up it resets everything to default which means
    safety program is running

Ok thanks. I wasn't sure if turning it off improves milage or anything. Thanks for the help.

vsc has no effect on mileage unless it is braking one or more wheels

and you will know because you will be partly sideways headed for disaster and the truck
will be very noisy and assisting you getting straightened out again

it works GREAT I fucked up on the interstate in snow once and I could have been in the trees but VSC
kept my mistake limited to three lanes and I straightened out. then shat myself.

vsc senses angular position and wheel speeds and through long years of research
is programmed with algorithms most likely to correct skids and assist the driver

    1) Normal Mode (no pushing buttons): VSC is active. Limited slip (traction control) with engine regulation.
    2) Quick Press of VSC button (moving or stopped): AUTO LSD (VSC is off to 30 mph). Limited slip without regulation (stronger traction control, use if you have tire spin trying to move ahead).
    3) Stop moving, press and hold in button for 3-5 seconds turns off VSC and traction control. It will come back on automatically if you drive dangerously. Press button or restart truck to return to normal mode.

    It really does?

Mine sure doesn't seem like it. I've messed around with it in an empty parking lot and it never seems to regulate anything at all. Even forcing the thing into a giant slide doesn't make it come back on.

You are "lucky"(?) The biggest complaint are from the kids who like to spin donuts in the snow, and the VSC inhibits doing dumb stuff with the truck, so you don't roll it (and then sue Toyota).
That yours stays off is a good thing... but have you actually gone over on two wheels almost rolling it over?

Let me add, that for you it is a good thing IF you want it to stay off...

I never drive with it off, as to do so makes the truck the same as my 2005 Tacoma and less of a truck. The traction control so much improves how the truck gets through stuff and the VSC in wet conditions drives as well as having it in 4WD as far as controlling any sliding.

Nowhere close to that. I can't imagine what I'd have to do to make that happen. I'm not crazy enough for that.

I had heard that it will step in before, but when I tried to test that theory, I couldn't get it to.

So it stays in VSC OFF MODE until you press the button or restart your truck, and never before then? That should please those that keep poo-pooing the system, saying that it acts like a nanny in keeping you in line?

If you lift and / or go to larger than stock tires , you too may come to hate the VSC / Traction Control system

For the record, my truck (2010 DC 4WD), with a .85" front lift (Bilstein 5100s) and 1" taller than stock tires (265/75-16) has had 0 issues or changes in the VSC activity.

I know, but maybe taller tires and higher lifts are some of the blame? Maybe they didn't bother getting an alignment done after? Mine was off by a lot... not sure if from the 5100s or just all the rocky Baja roads I drove?

edit: But, the day of driving between the new shocks installed by @speedfreek and the alignment shop, my VSC did not act weird at all.

My truck started doing it with no lift after I went up one size to 265/70/17 tires , same height and width as yours

I remember you telling me that. Weird... Maybe it was a Sport thing vs. and Off Road?
