Any guys in ON in here who have purchased recently? I'm officially shopping around for a 3rd gen limited. We are consolidating the fleet. I was at the local Subie dealership this morning getting a time-sert insert put into the brembo caliper on my 09 STI (long story...) and stopped by the toyota dealer. I'm looking to trade in our '11 TRD sport (88k, factory leather) and '10 4Runner (97k) for a '16 Limited, and the dealer today offered me the new truck + a cheque for 2.5k. Essentially giving us a high black book trade in value and selling the truck at MSRP + giving us a cheque for the difference.

I'm going to check out a few other dealers and see what they can offer and then see how well I can do. I'd be happy with a little more money and a set of TRD beadlocks thrown in.

I posted up in the tonneau cover thread, but does anyone in here know if a 2nd gen tonneau or bed extender can fit on a 3rd gen? Bed and bed rail system look to be the same so I'd be surprised if it didn't...

New member here in Alberta, just made a profile.

Currently playing the waiting game on an Inferno DCLB TRD Sport Upgrade. Should be in first week of March. Managed to get it for $42,500 out the door (I think I did good?).

In the meantime, does anybody know a good Calgary shop that will take stock tires on trade-in for something new? Would like to do new rims and tires right away something along the lines of this.

To be honest you should of probably rolled tires and rims into the deal at the end. You might of got away with it costing you almost nothing since most dealers will need to sell a few takeoffs or switch them on the odd truck that shows up with a wheel or rim defect. I've done this on almost every truck I've ever bought and I've always managed to get new tires (I've never had different rims until a few weeks ago, I don't care for bling only function) for nothing at the end of the deal. Even if the tires were $100 more each the dealer never charged me as long as we had a deal in place. They need those takeoffs anyways and get a premium on them that you will never see.

Most Kirks and other large chain shops will do a trade for the stock size tires. Be prepared to get slightly less than half of what they are worth new though. I've never known a shop that will take stock rims on trade unless they know of someone looking for them. Stock rims are just to application specific for most independent non dealer shops to want to deal with that.

Your best option, if you want to get the most value out of what you have, is to sell the tires and rims yourself on Kijiji or the Canadian marketplace on here. Your tires and rims will fit anything from 2005 on that is a Tacoma. That way you might get a little better than half of what they are worth but you might also end up sitting on the stuff for a while. Plus, if someone that isn't local buys, you'll end up having to deal with shipping.

BTW if you are in Alberta you could always give Kyle at Cochrane Toyota a call. They sell everything from FN and plenty of other TRD rims plus all the usual generic oil field crapola that people seem to go gaga for. He might be interested in your rims because he's a dealer shop and his prices are usually pretty good. Just remember the dollar is shit right now so the longer you wait, or the longer it takes for that truck to show up, the more expensive the rims and tires will be. Right now most shops have good stock and haven't adjusted the prices as much as they could. Once they run low on old dollar stock their prices could go up another 20% at least.

Thanks for the info, Sterdog. That's good to know. I still haven't made the final payment on the truck yet with the dealership, so I'm sure I still have time to negotiate tires with them if I decide to go that route.

Still on the fence as to whether or not to even do the rims, like you said, bling only function. But I would like to get a good snow AT tire on there so I don't have to deal with two sets.

Been looking at a Kumho Road Venture AT51, seems affordable at about $160 CAD for a 265/65r17 and rates up there with the Open Country's and BF AT KO. Anybody had experience with these in snow?

The second tread line in looks very closed up to me. That wouldn't do well in snow. It looks to be sipped okay which should do alright on ice but no better than a Toyo AT for sure.

The KO2 is winter snowflake rated and has a bit softer tread because of it. So it's legally a snow tire. It's not really a great snow tire, but it is a better option that the Kumho just because of the rubber compound they use.

Kal has these and I know a few guys run them. They are pretty soft though so I wouldn't wheel them hard in the summer.

    https://shop.kaltire.com/tiresdetails2/tireid/10758/

Kirks is carrying these too which are much of the same idea. Not nearly as AT looking though...

    http://ca.coopertire.com/Tires/Light-Truck/Discoverer-X-T4.aspx

To be honest, you are far better off biting the bullet and buying a true snow tire and a good set of 3 season AT's than you are buying one or the other. Your costs over time will be the same and you won't spend time swearing because you burnt off your winter ready tires in the summer or because your AT's weren't great at negative 2 when the chinook comes in and turns the road to ice.

I've had the Cooper Discoverer's before, they are a great snow tire. I'm really just trying to avoid storing a second set of rims and tires (tight on garage space, too many motorcycles).

Those Kumhos are actually snowflake rated as well, which is what turned me onto them.

Remember the company does the rating. There is no government body that double check it. You won't get the same winter performance out of the Kumho. My experience with Kumho several years ago was terrible but it was a different tire.

Any of you guys have anything to say about the Kumho road venture KL78? The truck is on the road 90% of the time, I just want something better than stock in the snow and on the dirt around the farm. They seem to get decent reviews. I have no experience with truck tires but the Kumho XSs I had on my STI were great, super grippy and slow wearing (but noisy!).

Hah well hopefully that means the extang trifold on my '11 will swap over!

Oh and you probably had a different version of the discoverer. Cooper has multiple tires under that name. The XT4 is a totally different tire with a softer rubber and more sipes to make it superior in winter. It should wear fine since it's rated for 85k too

Hey Bryan..think you messaged me with regards to selling stock tires on kijiji. Instead of taking the $500 the dealership offers, I was able to lock in 3-4 people onto a waiting list to get my stock tires (without sensors). It's risky with having the tires confirmed sold with no money in hand...so hopefully they are still interested when end of Feb rolls around. I was able to get $1100...probably could of actually got more. I am getting my new tires and rims through my dealership btw.
Looks like we also got the exact same truck...I also got it for $42,500, but had them throw in a bug deflector with it lol. :bananadance: You got the auto?

Hey, yes that was definitely me that messaged you. Cool, good to know they can sell on Kijiji, maybe I will just go that route now. $1100 is actually better than I would have expected.

I did get the auto, though I wanted a manual. However I decided I needed a long box, so the manual option disappeared for me. I test drove both and found the manual very nice, the auto grew on me a little bit by the second test drive where I got to go out by myself and actually experiment with it a bit.

I just gpt a "maintenence required" message...truck has less than 4000km's on it. When I go the the maintenence section in "APPS", the "personal" tab is highlighted....Does anyone know what this could be for?
I have an appt scheduled, so I am going to deal with the hood issue and get them to check the tranny fluid while I am there...
