I am coming from a 2014 Platinum 4x4 Tundra into a 2016 Tacoma. It was comfortable, more room than you could ask for and power to spin 35's from a dig. But 10.5 MPG isn't nothing to be proud of. I struggled with making the jump, but for the sake of my wallet, the limited room in my garage and not utilizing the truck to it's full potential I regretfully moved on. Looking forward to what Toyota does in 2018, because based on the update cycle of the Tacoma (2005-2011, Facelift 2012-2015, 2016+ New Truck) Im sure the Tundra (2007-2013, Facelift 2014+) will follow suit, because let's be honest, the competition has dusted the Tundra. So I expect to see a significant change in 2018. Don't expect a diesel either, Toyota just released a hydrogen car, Im sure they are working on some kind of diesel alternative and because the EPA doesn't know it's head from it's ass.

And one last thing. Electric turbo/SC hybrid, keep that in mind for the future and remember this post. Im not saying trucks will have them, but I am willing to bet this is something in the works.

Oh and Toyota if you're listening, I am ready to help design a Tacundra, and create a new vehicle segment "Mid-Size Plus".

Honestly I wish they would've refined the previous generation Tundra which was midsize+. I think a refined and updated version of that truck would've been great. The Tundra needs an update to be sure. I'd like to wait for it but not sure I'll have the time. Im looking at moving into the snow so 4x4 is going to be wanted.

I was really confused by this until I remembered the 2016s existed.

My 4.0 hates revving and feels extremely strong off the line. Falls on its face accelerating from speed though.

The last 3 Tacomas I owned had the 4.0 with the 5 speed auto. I don't recall any of those trucks having the flat feeling acceleration of this new 2016. However, I must admit the newer truck has better acceleration under wide open throttle. I have made the habit of automatically engaging the ECT button when I get in the truck and this really helps. I also like the locking rear diff but wish it could be engaged in both 4H and 4 low.

If my 2016 gets over 2100rpm I think I would be flying. On the Highway it just clocks along at 2K.

Actually, the Tundra name is derived from 'Tund' and 'Ra'. Tund, the planet of the Sorcerers of Tund, highly skilled in deception, rarely ventured off Tund and were driven mad by explorations of The Force. And Ra, the Egyptian Sun God, He Who Makes Sunshine.

The Tacoma name is derived from 'Taco' and 'Ma'. Taco, a mishmash of leftovers from a previous meal, contained in an easy to handle package. And Ma, an acronym meaning 'mostly adequate'.

Meh. The size and appearance of both have been carried to excess.

My Chevy HD2500 crew cab long bed is more truck than my Tacoma. It has more room and everything! I'll have a buttload more fun in my Tacoma. Is there a point to your observation or this thread. You aren't telling us anything we ALL don't know.

Knowing all that before you bought the Tacoma why did you buy it? Just curious .

That is just your opinion... I had a 12' Tundra TRD Access Cab before I bought the 16' DC Tacoma. I thought it looked pretty damn good myself just like the picture of the Tundra on the hauler. You said it needs to be a crew cab...well, IMO, the crew cab Tundra looks like a friggin school bus especially the long bed models. My access Tundra had about the same rear seat space as my DC Tacoma (maybe a little bigger than the Tacoma). But, beauty is in the "eye of the beholder" and whether it was an access cab, crew cab, 4.6L or 5.7L, the Tundra is a great truck. That said, I think the DC Tacoma has a great side profile.

First gen tundra is within inches of 2nd gen Tacoma...

My next truck will be a Tundra or f150. The larger size doesn't bother me at all. I wanted a double cab v6 manual Tacoma SR. Doesn't exist. To get a double cab v6 manual I'd have to go with a trd offering that includes a bunch of shit I don't want.

So, spend 34k on a Tacoma, get the manual with a bunch of additional gizmos that will malfunction, or 34k on a tundra sr with a v8 and an auto...kinda easy decision...

They are both Toyotas so ok.

When I bought my 07 Tacoma I looked at the Tundra as well. Yes more power as should be expected, but I just didn't want such a big truck all be it it was nice I have been happy with my Taco. When the time comes I will probably drive both again before making a decision, so who know what I will go with.

Bravo. But why stop there? If an V8 F150 is good then an F250 must be better. Or be a real man and get an F350. All these sissies driving these Tacomas an Prius need to man up. And this has nothing at all to do with me working in the energy industry and oil at $28/bbl if that's what you are thinking.

I was comparing two trucks in the same price range.

    Good try though.

I have my DD 01 DC Tacoma with OME goods & 230K.
    I also have owned my '07 Limited Crewmax Tundra for a year & 12K miles @ 73K
Each has its pros & cons. Nice to have options and use the truck suited for the days needs.
Tacoma = hunting, camping, offroading, DD, etc. Offroad capability and who cares if it gets scratched.
Tundra = pulling larger trailers, comfort, travel, etc. Power & luxury.
    No butt hurt here!

I wanted the big cab but unfortunately this was the first truck to be delivered in my area and I bought it sight unseen right off the truck via text message--no shit!
