    Hey there,

Just got my first Tacoma and I love it! I am working on getting a shell for it. I want it to be a little raised on the top so I can build a platform and sleep in it.

Any advice? I am new to the truck world....ARE? Leer? Century?

I was looking at something like the LEER 180 or something.

I had a good experience with Leer and a bad one with ARE, so I would recommend Leer. But for everyone like me, there's probably someone who had the opposite experience. So maybe just pick whichever is most convenient (such as closest dealer or friendliest sales people).

I'm looking at doing the same thing as far as sleeping quarters in the truck bed and then some, still shopping for a topper, so I have not got much done besides general research. I suggest checking out Youtube, there are a lot of related videos. Type in "living in truck bed", "truck camping", stuff like that. As far as camper shells go, I've been eye ball'in the Leer 122. It's a "high rise" and looks like it has quite a bit of room.

    Good luck!

I've had both. Pretty much a toss up. Just make sure you get a good dealer to install so you don't have any leaks.

ARE and Leer always have coupons for free stuff on their websites. Worthwhile visiting for the freebies.

This is my first time hauling my canoe on my shell. Normally I would carry it on my SUV and I got a rack on my shell.

Any advice on the front tie down now that the rack is set on the back on the shell and not front?

    thanks!
