Missing sorround sound option on system. Anyone else experiencing this issue? Getting the run around from Toyota. They seem to have no clue.

"Surround Sound" wouldn't be applicable to a car stereo, as far as I'm concerned.

JBL system shows to have surround sound. Yes, not a big issue in a truck but when advertised as an option system should have it. Dealer wants to replace head unit but not really wanting to replace head unit on new truck. I would like to know if it is a mistake in the owners manual or should my truck have surround sound as stated in owners manual. Really just need someone to verify wether or not they have the surround option on their system.

If I have the radio set to HD the music sounds as if it is in surround sound. Its hit and miss though because I live in a small town. HD signals are consistent in big cities. I turned the HD off because it got annoying really fast. It would go in and out every minute or so.
Not sure if that is what you mean.

My manual shows that I should have surround sound. Pg. 117, when I check the audio settings it is not an option. Dealer says it should be there but doesn't show up as an option. I've asked them to just check another limited but because they don't have one on the lot they want to run it up the Toyota chain. Still, would like someone to just check to see if the surround sound is an option on their system.

To ease your mind, I had to have my head unit replace for a different reason and it turned out just fine.

Again, I would like someone to verify if the surround sound is an option or did Toyota make a mistake in their owners manual. Thanks!

I have the JBL system. It should be an option based on the manual. Doesn't show as an option for my head unit.

Probably only an option when playing a movie, as that's the only time you will really experience "true" surround sound such as Dolby or DTS.

Sorry, I am talking about page 117 of the audio manual. mbarby, thanks for looking and verifying. Still confused though, why would Toyota put out a manual specific to the Tacoma with the JBL Premium Sound System and show the surround sound as an option. I am happy with the stereo system, not sure how surround sound in a Tacoma would even be a benefit but feel like if it is advertised then it should have it.

You have speakers in front, rear, left and right, no? Thus surround sound!

See my post above...Probably only an option when playing a movie, as that's the only time you will really experience "true" surround sound such as Dolby or DTS

Try putting a dvd in there and see what happens.

the system will not play DVDs as that would keep the drivers attention off the road, it may however only show up in the settings when it actually is available to use (like TMMI girl said about HD radio)

I also don't see surround in my limited but like the others are saying.. it would only be virtual surround if the source audio wasn't encoded in a surround format. There’s 5.1, 6.1, 7.1, 9.2, Pro-Logic IIx, Pro Logic IIz, Dolby DSX and many more but these formats are uncommon in what you'd listen to in your vehicle.
