    All I have right now is steel sliders aluminum full bumper and skids and I'm running the 700lbs with no preload and I think it is a bit too stiff. That is with the compression adjusters cranked to full soft. 650lbs should be a good sweet spot

    Anything is subjective unless it's objective and that may be subjective ........ You have lift spindles so you don't need your springs to carry the weight of the truck for lifting purposes. Why do you wanna switch? If it's ride quality you're after then swapping to a stiffer spring with the lack of extra weight the guys with a winch, skids and 4wd have isn't gonna help.

    This. 100% this. I fuckin miss having lift spindles. But I don't miss 2WD. If you can do it, rock it. Lift spindles in no way effect ride quality, so if you can get away with it, DO IT. Put whatever shocks you want on there for ride quality.

    Lots of folks are pretty obsessive on the 700lb rate in this thread. Unless you have a second gen with a full plate bumper, 4wd, winch, and steel skids, 700# is overkill. The shock ratio is not the greatest with second gens, but FFS, there's nothing wrong with adding preload. I whisper WTF to myself for those trying to achieve "zero preload" for some reason I've yet to figure out.
    The bottom line is you should be setting preload/ride height based on the truck performance...not how much lift.

    Most people dont need enough performance out of thier coils to worry about it but if you are really pushing the front end hard, the 700# x 14" King Coils can fully compress with too much preload and because of the thicker diameter of the actual coil give you coil block. I doubt I will ever get to that point with my driving but knowing it is a possibility makes me want to keep my preload as little as possible.

    Thanks for the input. I guess I should add that I have sliders as well, and I'm used to a super harsh ride and what's on there now is super squishy. I'm going to add some preload and see where that takes me.

    And this is the kind of misinformation that spreads like wildfire on TW. By "coil block," I'm assuming you are talking about coil bind. And with that:

    Your king coilovers have a total shock travel of 4.93".
    A 14" coilover at 600# has a total block height of 6.26". 14-6.26=7.74" of spring gap before coil bind
    A 14" coilover at 700# has a total block height of 6.57". 14-6.57=7.43" of spring gap before coil bind
    Since your shock can only travel 4.93"
    7.74-4.93=2.81" of preload you could add before you would run into coil bind
    7.43-4.93=2.5" of preload you could add before you would run into coil bind

    And the preload above, is actual preload on the coilover, not wheel travel.
