So I finally got all the parts in for the lift. 5100's w/ OME 887 and AAL in the rear. Iv watched several videos on installing the shocks and springs without a spring compressor so I felt pretty confident I could handle it. Everything was going good until I realized I placed one of the top washers in the wrong spot after getting the driver side suspension completely done. So I moved onto the passenger side then went back to the driver side and low and behold this happened(pictured below).image.jpgimage.jpg
The problem I'm having is I believe the threads on the shock has some burrs or something on it which has made turning the nut almost impossible. When I put the shock onto the truck and compress the spring there is barely enough room to get pliers or a crescent wrench on the top to stop the shock rod from spinning. I gave up for the day. Any advice would help, as I have all day tomorrow to figure out what to do.

So pliers and a crescent wrench did that to the top of the shock? And you need to get that off so you can fix one of the washers under that shock hat?

Actually most of that damage is probably from channel locks. But everything is set now I just can't get the damn nut tightened down because I think the threads may be slightly scuffed up and nothing holds the shock rod in place.

put an air gun on the nut and it will zip right down, no need to hold the shaft.

I hate that stupid shaft end design. After a bazillion year of it (most marquees) you'd think they'd do something smarter.

Really? Figured it would just keep spinning. Unfortunately a pneumatic gun isn't in my tool arsenal yet.

Pop in your local shop and give a tech a fin to do it for you.

My experience has been that the impact spins it so fast the nut is down before the shaft knows what to do ;)

Seen and done this on several rear shocks on race Miatas, which are pretty tough to access in the trunk.

Hopefully it'll work when the spring isn't fully compressed.
