    Awesome

I've had good luck using 3/4" copper pipe couplers as stand offs for a similar set up

Yeah I thought about it and didnt want to try and get those all in position so I got lazy. I actually screwed and glued the strips to the drywall/studs first, then positioned the actual cement board sheet and attached that. And the cement board actually has "feet" at each end to the floor to carry some of the load so that the whole heat shield isn't just hanging off the wall.

Oh, and my Medium Ecofan from Lee Valley is out for delivery today :woot:

Well a tad more done. Got my "mantle" mock up started. Slots are required to ventilate the heat shield on the wall. They will get screen added on the underside before paint so when installed nothing can fall through into the wall. Then one more piece of molding to add to it and it should be done. Notch door casing and re-install baseboards and I can sit back and relax. :D

Man, I am jealous of everyones wood burning stoves. All we have is a built in natural fireplace.

Anyone have a trick/tip or good product to reccomend to get the most out of ours? Anything I can do to spread the heat more beyond a fan on the mantel above it?

I am also going to put a ceiling fan about 10 feet out in front of it too in hopes of circulatinf more heat. Gets real nice and warm in about an 6-ift half circle in front and thats all.

    Thanks in advance

When I was young, we had only an old train station pot belly stove for the entire house. Had about a 30" diameter belly and stood about 5" tall (not air tight at all). We would light a fire in the fall sometime and it would not go out until the spring sometime. I figure we fell, cut, and split 10-13 cords per year. I miss it now but I cannot physically do it anymore. now I turn up the thermostat

They certainly aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for as far as quality and usable heat. My parent's house went from burning 5 cords a year and only heating the living room, down to 2 cords a year and being able to cook yourself out of the entire house when they got an insert installed. I have the hearth style insert in my house. I'm definitely overburning it a little trying to heat a 2,900 sq/ft house, but it does the job with minimal help from the central heating and I still barely use 2 cords a year.

Got the splitter built and working. The gas engine and dual stage pump cycle way faster than the old electric unit.

It's a direct clone of the Honda and Kohler, and for $95 on sale I'll just buy another one if it ever breaks.

Pretty much any insert is going to need access to electrical wiring or outlet I assume?

In the event of power outage, can you still use an insert?
