    Worried about the drivebelts on my 01 Tacoma V6 4X4... I think they have been causing the screeching for the past few months but when I went to examine them they seemed fine until today.

    Please review the video I made while driving because I'd like to know what caused the belts to screech and parallel tear/separate so it does not happen again. I've had the truck now for about 5 years and I have never changed the drive belts, I just want to make sure that they were not on tight or their is something else wrong with the pulleys.

    They start to screech after I start up and drive for the first few mins and then it goes quiet for the most part unless I turn the steering wheel to go in a different direction or if I turn on the blowers for heat or cold air. I also notice a burnt rubber smell coming from the front after driving and I am convinced now its coming from the belts

    I know I def need to replace them ASAP because one has a parallel tear in it and it could fail at anytime and I would be stranded.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I'd like to do it myself or at-least buy quality parts online, does anyone have any idea where I can get them for a good price? Also how do I find out the exact part numbers for my truck?
    Its a 2001 3.4L V6 FI GAS - 4x4
    Also do these components or SERVICE area contain asbestos? That stuff worries me.
    just go to your local toyota and give them you truck info and they'll give you the belt. $30-$50 and just do it yourself. its pretty simple. should take longer than 30mins. Took me 10mins after the second time.
    Replace that belt ASAP and check all your accessories and pulleys for seizing.
    That little belt goes and you just may be buying a new engine or a lot of work on your engine due to overheating.
    Is that you in the video? Good job but thats the timing belt inside the engine not the v belts which control the AC, power steering and alternator.
    OK thanks, maybe I should not drive it till I get it done. I don't want to be that guy buying a new engine...
    How do I combat the seizing the right way?
    You want to remove the belt [ note how it goes on or locate to pictorial aid ] and rotate each accessory and pulley. Pulleys should turn with no drag, accessories can have some drag but should turn quite easily and feel smooth while rotating.
    BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
    Just start and replace the idler pulleys one by one until the noise disappears. You can do it! The belt looks dry rotted to shit (I think you got your moneys worth out of it) Start with a new belt, asap.
    Sounds like your a/c compressor and or clutch. My old tracker did that for quite some time. To check pop the hood. Have someone start the truck with the a/c on or defrost. Watch the pulleys for the one that is not turning, or turning slowly.
    BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!
    My first gen has 3 belts but it is a 2.7 and not the v6 like you have.
    I would recommend something along the lines of a DAYCO brand from like autozone or advance. Belts do wear out over time and start to make noise, just replace the belt for now unless you think there is another problem. Someone here posted a video of a timing belt and that is another monster that you may or may not want to tackle yourself. The picture you posted is not of the timing belt, your timing belt is behind plastic covers that you cant see until you remove the covers.
