Has anyone purchased their tacoma in another state and had it shipped to them. If so who did you use, how much did you pay, and how was your experience?

I found a dealer out of state that is giving great deals. I looked into shipping to Southern California and even with shipping I'd save money over what stealerships are charging here. Just wanted to get an idea of what to expect when shipping a vehicle since I've never done it before.

Thanks for the tip. Just set up an account and found several companies. Have you used this site before?

I find it cheaper and safer to fly there and drive back.

I shipped my 68' GTO from Kansas City to Los Angeles. It cost me about $1200 closed container but this was probably 6 years ago.

I don't know about safer, but you can get pretty cheap plane tickets on this interweb thingy. That's what I did for my Tacoma. If nothing else, if gives you one hell of a first ride.

The selling dealer knocked the price of my airline ticket off of the sticker price so I took my wife with me and made a trip out of it. Good times.

Yeah, I'm actually looking into that as well. Flights are about $200 one way so flying there and driving back is definitely an option. Thinkin about taking the wife with me too.

I've shipped two cars. One OR to NC, one OR to AZ. Both cost about $1k. $200 deposit up front, remainder paid in cash to the driver on delivery. Personally, if I had the time, I'd fly there and drive back. Especially with the cost of fuel where it is.

How are registration and tags handled? Do you title it in the state purchased, or will the dealer handle the titling for your state?

Just wondered how legal it is to purchase out of state and drive it back home.

Get the dealer to title it in your home state, get a temp tag from dealer. That's how I got my truck in NC with an OR title

It's completely legal. The process differs from state to state so call your state's titling office and ask them. For me, it's the county clerk, but I'm sure each state runs it differently.

I purchased in Wisconsin and reside in Kentucky. In Wisconsin, the lender gets the title. In Kentucky, the owner gets the title with a lender id'd on the title. My county clerk had to request the Wisconsin issued title from the lender. Once received, they issued a Kentucky title.

So, you'll need to do a little up front research. Just make sure you have your purchase paperwork, insurance card, and your driver's license for the drive home and you should be fine.

    Good luck and happy trails!

I just recently had my 2016 Tacoma shipped from Ma - Az. I used Fisher Shipping, they're based out of Ma but ship all through the country and highly recommend them. They delivered the truck earlier than expected in perfect condition and anytime I called them they updated me within the hour with the drivers location. Price was $1,475.00 with a $275.00 deposit and the balance was paid to the driver upon delivery and inspection. If you decide to use them PM me and I can give you a few names of who to talk with there and any other info you might need.

I agree with the others that it is best to fly out and drive back. The first time I bought a car out of state, it sat for a month and a half because of... we will call it logistical issues with the shipping company (most of them are 3rd party middlemen). To make a long story short, I was lucky to get my deposit back from the shipping company and I quickly bought a plane ticket and flew out there and had an impromptu vacation road trip back. The second time I bought a car out of state, I bought a plane right away.

Let me know if I can help.

I bought my truck in Vegas and drove it back to OR. It was nice driving the truck home. Just waiting on my titling paperwork to finish processing so I can finally register it.
